Is Cross-Play Possible for Overwatch? Find Out Blizzard’s Response!

by on June 6, 2016

Blizzard Entertainment has commented on the future of cross-play for the new, popular multiplayer game, Overwatch. In response to a fan question on Twitter, the official Overwatch Twitter account addressed the issue of cross-play for the game. Recently, Psyonix incorporated cross-play between platforms for the popular game Rocket League. It seems cross-play across player platforms is now a reality, and gamers would like to see more of this happen in the future. You can check out the Overwatch tweet response on the subject below.

Per the statement, “There is no cross-platform play. We’ll keep an eye on cross-platform possibilities on the consoles.” So that’s pretty much a firm confirmation that there will be no cross-platform…for now. It seems that Blizzard is open to the idea of cross-platform play for the console versions of the game. However, the tweet doesn’t give the impression it will happen any time soon.

It seems fans are definitely key on the prospect of cross-platform gameplay for titles such as Overwatch, since it is an online multiplayer game. So it will be interesting to see if more games go in that direction, or at least try to experiment with similar features more often.

Overwatch is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. A Competitive Play mode is scheduled to launch for the game later this month.
