While I don't know of any groups on steam, I personally am always up to meeting new gaming partners who are into playing the same things that I am. Friends are not always into the same games. Have you considered starting your own group? If so, please do link the group you create to the forum.
Honestly, like this guy said creating your own group seems like a good idea. I know personally that I would like to join a group for civilization matches with like minded individuals.
There are lots of websites you can use to find people that also have a desire to nuke some cities and build up their civilizations! A general Google search would give you some results, but I can give you some personal experience I've had with certain websites. Reddit, specifically the Civ subreddit, is probably the best place to find people to play with. The amount of time I've spent with friends I've met on that site creating battles that last hours is honestly too high to count. Most of the people on that website are super nice and welcoming to everyone. I've tried Civplayers, but it's super inactive and most of the players are honestly quite rude. They focus so much more on building up their own civs that they forget they're playing with real people that would love to interact with them. Most of the games I've had from Civplayers just turns into who can get to nukes fastest, and then Gandhi everyone else. Your best best would be either Reddit or Steam, but I personally think that Reddit is very accessible and easy to use to find people to play with. Just look up "Reddit civ group" and see what comes up. If you can figure out where to post, you can try making your own post about looking for people to play with in one of Reddit's many small groups, which are called subreddits. Good luck!
Thanks for the update on Reddit. I've never visited the website myself, but I definitely will check it out now that I know I can find other Civ players on there. I thought Steam didn't have a group the last time I checked though. Has there been a group added recently?
Well, since Civilization V is not a massive multiplayer game I do not really think there might be active groups nowadays, either way as Bapsy said, you should take the initiative of creating your own group and run a clan or something like that, host events, matches and stuff of that nature, be creative and get your own group running to see what you can get out of that.
Yeah, the game has been losing players for a while now. I think it's due to a combination of players losing interest, and players simply waiting for the newest installment of the series to come out. I'm definitely in the first category, I used to leave Civ V but it's become a little bit of a grind over the years. Like another user said, trying to create your own group would probably be the best thing to do now. You could get a bunch of people together that truly like the game, and perhaps create a community that can last several years. I know that there are dozens of people that would love to have a small community like that, and this forum is probably a fantastic place to start. I think starting a new thread tilted something like "Let's Make a Civ Group!", or something along the lines of that, would be a great way to get some people to join your group, or at least to consider it. Be careful though, you'd have to make sure you have everything planned out, because people tend to lose interest in groups pretty quickly if they don't have something to participate in right away. Good luck!
I've lost interest as well, online matches aren't exciting for me anymore and a lot of times they glitch out so I'm forced to quit. I've played a lot of campaigns so I don't really feel like starting up one, I'm patiently waiting for VI.
Yeah, online matches have always been a bit buggy. I don't really enjoy the experience unless I'm playing with friends, and if the game craps out during a match, it really doesn't make me want to come back for more. That's not to say that I haven't gotten any enjoyment out of the game, because I've definitely gotten hundreds of hours of gameplay from it. I think that now, after all of this time, I've started to think more negatively of the flaws than I did before. After so much time, the bugs of the game have become a lot more apparent, and instead of just dealing with them, I've chosen to move on to other games for now. Once Civ VI comes out, I think I'll definitely play it for at least a few months, regardless of the bugs. I'm pretty confident in Firaxis though, and I hope the game will be a bit more polished than Civ V.
I definitely recommend you not to play online if you do not really want to waste your time because online matches are bugged, sometimes it glitches, sometimes it does not but you never know when it is going to happen and believe me, you will not have a really good time if that happens to you, you should preferably play with yourself and have a better time, believe me. Good luck.
I would also suggest that you use this forum to find others like you who truly love the game. There are probably loads of people who have thought along the same lines, just that no one actually did anything about it.
Yeah, like I said in another post, I'm sure there are dozens of people here that would love to get together and play a few games of Civ. Come to think of it, I should probably get around to doing that, since no one else wants to. I'm a little busy right now though, otherwise I would have set something up by now. Not necessarily for myself either, since I don't play that much now. I just see so many people that want something like this to be set up, and it really sucks that no one has done it yet.
Why don't you go ahead and start a group right here? It wouldn't necessarily have to take up a lot of your time. You could get other members of the group to help you with the planning and organization. That is a really great idea. And maybe you could take in a newbie like me and turn me into a pro.
Even if the online is a little buggy, the match is saveable. So potentially you could save often if you're experiencing a lot of dropping. I personally haven't really had that problem enough to deter me from playing. The experience of playing with my friends is worth the occasional drop I experience.
I'm sure Civ VI is going to be polished, they seemed to be really interested in the criticism and they're trying the best to comunicate with the community. I hope they fix the multiplayer mode once and for all.
