So I recently stumbled upon this epic creation:
    http://imgur.com/a/NJBuH

Someone took their time and built a functional 1 KB harddrive. He also explains some basics in that post on how he made it work and connects everything with each other. Pretty much one of the most insane things I have encountered yet (on par with the functional calculator).

That's really interesting. Saw something similar to this a few days ago. I wish I could make something like this.

Well if I remember right he said it takes a few seconds to write and to lookup stuff. You also have to manually controll which parts to read or write from/to with levers so it cerainly is no super computer :D.

We all know you need a full-fledged gaming rig to be able to play minecraft without lags :p (at least if you want to use texture packs and mods ;-))

I have a relatively low end gaming PC, and I run a 256x texture pack. It does lag a bit when I use my xray hack, though (only for testing the anti xray on my server).

This reminds me of a build I once made with redstone that worked on the same idea; that a redstone signal passes through solid blocks but not clear ones. I just can't remember what it was though... hmm.

That is ridiculous! I didn't realize you could make so many complex things in a simple block placing game.

This is what I was talking about in another topic I posted on that asked to describe why you like Minecraft so much. These crazy undertakings! Who could have ever imagined there would be a fully-working HDD. Even if it's 1KB its still an amazing achievement! The best part about these creations is downloading them and seeing exactly how they worked.

I am a game designer by trade, and knowing that today's kids are growing up with tools like these have me very excited for the future. The concepts and logic that you learn in this game will pay off for many kids later in life. This is very creative and I'd love to see other Minecraft users take the initiative and put out something cool like this. And forget the haters, it's so much easier to destroy than to build something from scratch.

It looks amazing, these people have a lot of imagination! I never thought things could get so complex with such a simple game.

Maybe one day we can be running the Witcher 3 and Watchdogs in Minecraft! In all seriousness, this is like remaking the computer, inside a computer inside a game inside a computer. Whoever made this has some potential in the computer sciences, and I hope the best for him, this guy could be the new Bill gates,.

It's ridiculous that someone can make this out of a game which wasn't even made for such things! Some people are just really inventive and clever. It all takes a lot of practice I'm guessing.

There was an article in the news recently about some minecraft creations. They talked about a 256 byte hard drive but this is even more impressive. How large could one theoretically make it?

That's so cool. I applaud the person who came up with that idea. I'm fairly tech handy and that seems like a project that would be fun and cool to be able to tell people I did. Thanks for the idea. I'm glad you posted a link to cuz I can just go by what he did since it worked.

Whoa, I cannot even comprehend how long it must have taken him to come up with this amazing idea. Imagine how many trial and errors that guy probably went through to make his thing work! That is just absolutely amazing and shows that truly anything can be made in Minecraft.

    Not an HDD

Hard disk drive means there's a spinning disk inside the drive (Which is obviously not possible without some heavy modding in MC)
