2D or 3D Final Fantasy?

    Do you guys prefer the 2D or 3D Final Fantasy games? The 3D games look great and everything but there's just something about the 2D versions that you can't get in the 3D ones. The simplicity and classic RPG feel of it is really something else. What do you guys think? Would you play a newer 2D Final Fantasy game?

    This is one of the easiest questions that I would answer here in this forum. I highly prefer a 3D Final Fantasy game over a 2D FF. I think that 2D is very limited. Developers could do much more things in 3D rather than 2D. I never really enjoyed the 2D FF games. But when FF7 and 8 and 9 came on the PS1, I was so thoroughly impressed that I became a fan and I avidly followed each and every game thereafter.

    While I love old Final Fantasy games, 3D games are better. FF have been characterized for having state-of-the-art graphics and I think it is OK to like 3D games most. For example, FF IX feels like an old FF game, but its graphics are gorgeous and did not lose the spirit of FF.

    I prefer the aesthetics of 3D over 2D, but I can make an make an exception only if the story is really well told.

    I prefer playing 3D Final Fantasy games than the 2D counterparts, but 2D Final Fantasy games are still amazing. In my opinion the best Final Fantasy game was in 3D so that's why I enjoy 3D Final Fantasy games more than 2D.

    2D by far. 2D is really nostalgic for me so I'm most likely extremely biased.

    3D. 2D is awesome in it's own right but 3D is better.

    Well I started playing RPGs during the PS1 era, so I have to go with 3D. Though now that I am playing some classic Final Fantasy games that were ported in Android platform, I am starting to appreciate the 2D gameplay.

    Of course 3D is better when it's done right, but for me personally I would give it up if it means the story would be better, but then again I think it depends a lot on when you have started gaming for me I have been gaming a long time since the Genesis era.

    I like both. Regardless whether they are 2D or 3D, ultimately, their game mechanics are very similar. They aren't truly role playing games in the sense of fully customizable, eg: assign attributes, skills, etc like many westernized RPG's. The primary thing for the FF games is their story and the progression of that story with the little character interactions.
