Maybe it is time to build a game that is dedicated to those who enjoy farming gold. My idea would have to be a subscription based game, but the idea would be to provide a playable game that works similar to WoW but where you could cash out the gold that you farm.

The value of the in game gold would vary based in the total amount of in game gold and the pool of real money it represents. There could be adverts or product placements as a source of funds, but it should be possible to build the game without.

I see the game being fun to play but with the added perk of tireless players earning something as well. Would you play a game like this?

I remember trying a crappy paid-to-play browser-based FPS game 4 years ago. You earn money (if I remember it right I think it was $.001) for every kill, and lose the same amount when you die. Headshots and knife-kill have bonuses. You can't create a room to avoid kill abuse as people might create a dummy character to kill in a one-on-one room to earn without losing money. You can only join in server-created rooms with 16 players (8vs8) and can't choose which room to join, the server will find a room for you that has the most players when you click the play button. I'm not good in FPS so I quit after a month without cashing out anything, but my friend continued playing the game and earned decent money. Too bad hacks were invented for that game, and the hack abuse forced the game to close down after a year. They probably lost a lot of money from those hackers who seems to cashout everyday due to insane amount of kills in a day lol. XD

Now a paid-to-play MMORPG would work if the game would be protected from hacks, otherwise it would suffer the same fate and close down in a short period of time.

I don`t think I would play a game that is totally based on grinding and farming things. What would be the point? Maybe I would sign up and regard it as an online job. But a game like this would totally remind of get paid to click advertisement sites, where you spend the whole day clicking ads that pay you a fraction of a penny.

What's the name of this? That was a GENIUS concept and would be amazing if it had a great anti-hack script.

I forgot the name of that game/website. I just found out about it when someone posted the referral link on Tweeter. But yeah, it was a great concept and did attract quite a huge number of players/gamers, so the website didn't have trouble getting the site traffic they needed to monetize the site. And I believe not all who played that game are simply after the money, but rather just playing to have fun. I mean it can be really difficult to earn money that way. You'd be better off doing those paid-to-click sites than play that game. Imagine, should you end a match with say 20-24 kill-death score, not only did you not earn money but you even lost $0.004 from your balance, so I think the website didn't have problems from losing much of their resources from cashouts.....until the hacks happened.

I do hope a website/game like that happens again in the future with a better hack prevention system. And please, not FPS as I'm not very good at that genre lol. XD

On a business end I am not sure how they would swing it. How much would the subscribe fee end up costing? The business would want to make sure they are generating enough to cash players out.

While it's a cool idea in theory, there's just no way it could work in reality. Gold farmers and hackers would instantly ruin the game. Diablo tried it with the RMAH and it failed miserably.

I'm also not really a fan of signing up for an MMO as an online job. Seems to really defeat the purpose of the game have fun and get away from working for awhile.
