How cool would it be to have a Grand Theft Auto MMORPG? I know that may seem weird to some, but I think it'd be a pretty rad idea. Lol I just said rad. In all seriousness though, what do you guys think of a GTA MMORPG? Could it work? Would it work? Discuss!

This is about to exist to an extent, when GTA Online comes out. GTA Online comes out 1st October and is pretty much an MMORPG. It's sandbox, you choose what missions you do, you level up and you can buy things for your character and buy your own house etc...

Yeah GTA Online is much of this. It may not be on the level of most mmorpgs out there, but it's close enough I'd say. I can't wait to see how GTA Online will be, I hope it's better than GTA IV, because that was a joke. :(

This could be what Rockstar is playing around with, maybe a future GTA will be exactly this.

Yeah, it would be cool to shoot each other in the face lol. I would love it. Thankfully, they have listened to the community and are giving us GTA Online.

I think Rockstar is pretty much making it in their GTA V, although it remains to be seen how good (or bad) it actually comes out to be. But Rockstar has a good record so I'm pretty hopeful.

It's going to be a separate addition here. Yeah, the world is going to be same, but everything else will be different.

Will the GTA Online have a story connected to the Single Player?
If a GTA MMO did exist, really cool scenarios could play really well. Such as random events (Bank Heist) comes up in your area and others can join in. For Raids, you have to kidnap the president's daughter and character classes would reflect real life Criminal professions - Thief, Gangsters (not all gangsters are criminals), Drive....etc...
Rockstar if you are reading this, sign me up for the beta and percentage of profits :)

I think the next GTA game is going to be a MMORPG, for the better or worse. It's not going to come out for another 5 years anyway. All the games are going to be online only after a couple of years. So there you go. There will be some inherent setbacks of it being a MMORPG, but the benefits will be amazing. What do you guys think?

I don't think it would be any good really well not as good as on the console you would just get constant hackers and it would get boring fast I don't think Rockstar need any more money really they have made about 2 billion off of GTA V.

But there would be problems with hackers in GTA Online game as well. You just have to deal with them in appropriate manner rather than stop making online games. They need to stay one step ahead to curb hacking.

I'm not sure if it would work. GTA is established as the best open world third person action game. So the fans of GTA would probably mock an MMORPG GTA. But it would be interesting in a way, i would try it out for sure.

    I wouldn't mind playing that. :p

Still, I am really curious about GTA Online. It hasn't come out as yet has it?

I don't really like the idea of an MMO in an urban, modern environment. To me MMOs are pretty much restricted to fantasy/sci fi, either way as many have said prior to me GTA Online is pretty much the closest thing you'll ever see to a GTA MMORPG so get into it!

Why not? I mean its just a change of surroundings after all. Who's to say it can't work well.

I like the idea of an MMO in a modern place, like a huge city. However designing one would be pretty difficult. I don't think that GTA is the type of game that would suit and MMO well. It'd had to be an own game. There was a game called APB (All Points Bulletin) that did this pretty well, but it lacked the quests, side missions and stuff like that. It was pure PvP, cops versus robbers.

I'm having a blast with GTA Online, honestly. There are plenty of problems but on the whole it's an absolute blast to just mess around with your friends racing around or causing mayhem. It's all I ever wanted in a GTA game (IV's multiplayer felt way too shallow IMO)

It's probably going to be included in Rockstar's next GTA release. It's imminent from my point of view. Character customisation, multiplayer, everything we need. It's going to be in a while though, regardless - I'm sure it will be worth the time.
