Many of us that gamed in the PS1 era and loved RPG games remember Legend of Dragoon fondly. It was one of those games that sits with many games even today. Gamers have begged for a sequel for the game. But when you look at how the game ended, a direct sequel is almost impossible because of the finality of the ending. But if there was a way and Sony made a sequel, do you think it would be successful in this day and age?
It depends on how the game will be made. Any game can be successful if they know how to make it great. No doubt that having a popular name slapped as the title will get people's interest and hype up. A Legend of Dragoon sequel will get gamers hype up but in the end, it's how the game turns out that will determine its success.
I never actually finished Legends of Dragoon. I bought a PS1 after the PS2 was released and played through all those RPG's I missed during the golden era of PS1 RPG's. The 64 was a great console but definitely missed the RPG boat. Anyway, I remember liking Legends of Dragoon but it seems an odd game to make a sequel of, better late than never I suppose. However if I had a choice for a solid sequel of an old classic- Final Fantasy Tactics, hands down.
Final Fantasy Tactics already has a sequel. The Lion Wars. Although if you meant a direct sequel with the same characters then I'd agree with you. @William Quah- In that case, I don't expect a sequel to be good because as I said, the ending left NO opening for more to the story. If the slapped their name on a game just to cash in on a sequel they will anger fans like none other lol
I've read there was actually a sequel in development when they put the game on psn and then it got scrapped in its planning stages. Here's hoping they follow through.
As much as I liked Legend of Dragoon, I'm happy a sequel did get scrapped. There are some games that simply just don't work as long franchises. It's not always good to even force the issue just because fans want it to happen.
That's true for any game, but that usually only happens only if they can't come up with a good story to continue a series are they just make a sequel just to make money and they know fans will buy it even if the story sucks.
Yeah, but I'm not sure they're going to risk enraging the fans by putting out a bad story to one of the more beloved rpg games of the CD era. If they make a sequel just to cash grab regardless of a crappy story, fans WILL let them know all about it in their wallets
A sequel could be made but not as a continuation of the story of Dart and the other main characters in the first game. Sony could create a Legend of Dragoon based world based world and cast a different set of characters. Would it be successful? I think so. RPGs made by big gaming companies tend to do well in the market. And given that it already has solid roots from the PS1, I think that the game would do very well.
