Of course, Pokemon games are designed for kids, although some dark elements have been included in various titles. Would you like to see a more mature version of Pokemon? I'm not talking adult, but something that would appeal to a slightly older audience.
Eh, I'm not sure how well that'd work. If they can make it work, then sure, but there's always the problem that the games already have a lot of history in one concrete demographic. A more mature game could be bad in that regard. The manga is kind of darker, and overall if a more mature game follows that universe then sure, maybe it could work.
I believe the Gamecube Pokemon games were considered a more mature Pokemon game. I know they weren't the main series, but I recall reading they were good games that seemed to have a darker story and setting.
If you are interested in this kind of topic, there are several GBA and DS ROM hacks that tell different stories with different Pokemon. Several of these are much darker than the main series, so dark that I didn't even finish them.
In the newer games the series has some darker, more mature undertones to them. In Platinum an entire lake was pretty much nuked and a bunch of Magikarp were dying. I wouldn't be surprised that they kept that part more kid friendly for a reason but the whole nuking and dying part is hard to miss as an adult. That being said a more mature Pokemon would be nice for canon instead of spinoffs or side games developed by 3rd parties. It'd be aimed towards an older crowd obviously and have parallel timelines to the original kid friendly versions.
I think that a mature game would be bad for the franchise. A big part of their customers are children and if parents heard that there is a mature Pokemon game they would probably stop buying their children Pokemon games and other stuff. And the majority of us play Pokemon now because we played it when we were children so if they release a mature game now they will lose customers now they will lose customers in the future.
I'm actually fine with how the game is now as far as it's themes and underlying themes are concerned. The games seem to provide the perfect balance in order to entertain multitudes of age groups; so it's not something I tend to hope nor worry about.
Yeah, I think the way the games are designed now is a good balance. You can enjoy them as a kid, and then replay them as an adult and recognize the dark themes that are there as well. Although I would enjoy maybe an MMORPG Pokemon. I'm not sure if they'd ever do that, but I think it would be pretty fun.
The adult term wouldn't easily apply to Pokemon. The whole point of the game is to be child friendly.
I would love a grown-up Pokémon in the manga universe. The manga is a lot darker and more violent than the extremely sugary anime and game are. I think it would be really interesting if it happened. After all, Pokémon battles aren't that different from real life dog fights, are they? And dog fights are nasty shit. Then again, I think there's no way it would happen. The games are popular for being kid-friendly, imagine the PR nightmare that would ensue when dumb parents buy it for their kids without realizing it's not as kid-friendly as the other games.
Oh yes please! I may sound a bit violent, but recently I would like to see a much more gripping, compelling story for Pokemon since it has a lot of potential! The stories generally, while not bad, isn't really something that's memorable. What got me riled up in the idea is that I am curious of the Kalos War. "A lot of Pokemon has perished during that period", so I'm really curious. If they manage to make a more serious plot but not really up to the war sense, then it'll be great! Just a side note, my favorite Pokemon is Bellossom, but I'm curious what would happen if you can pluck some of her leaves and make tea with it. You won't necessary kill her of course, just a few leaves, like a medicine for you made by it specifically when you get sick. There's also no show of the more practical things; they did state they eat Pokemon too. These elements are not present at all except in the manga.
