A sports MMO game would be an interesting premise. It doesn't matter what the sport is. I guess people will play as managers with the ability to play-in-role with one of the members of the squad/team.

If the game is like hockey, football, basketball or something similar, eg: Blood Bowl, then the player will become a manager. If the game is like tennis, badminton, ping pong or golf, then the player becomes that character.

I know there are sports MMO games for golf, but there really isn't much. So what sports games would you want to be made into MMO games? It could be a fantasy sports game as well.

mmm... I don't really see what you are getting at. Most sports games have a multiplayer mode, which seems like exactly what you're talking about.

Well, this forum is called "General MMORPG Discussion". Massive Multiplayer Online games are games like World of Warcraft, Rift, Tera, Aion, Everquest, Maple Story, Stronghold Kingdoms, etc.

What MMO games are not are single player games with multiplayer features like Call of Duty 4, Borderlands 2 and Starcraft 2.

So it means I am talking about a Sports MMO Game and not a single player game with multiplayer features.

Yes, but how would you do this? I mean... surely a tennis game will not have 100 people playing on the field at the same time? So it would have to be 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 with multiple teams in a tournament? That is already in most games.

You said about players becoming managers, take the NFL and Madden series of games for example. There are only 32 teams, so logically you can't have 300 managers, no? There is already a multiplayer option to play a season with one player controlling (managing) each team.

If your idea is to have hundreds, or thousands of players in the same sporting event at the same time then we would really be limited by the number of sports that are actually done with hundreds or thousands of participants.

A Blood Bowl MMO would be awesome. I`m not sure if there isn`t already one available, but I always liked Blood Bowl, and you love to see a quality MMO made out of that franchise.

If you are into basketball, there is this MMO called Freestyle Street Basketball that let's you play basketball with other players. And no, it's not like those NBA2k series that allows you to control a team, you only control your character, so getting along with other players and fulfilling your role in your team is essential.

A sports MMO could be really promising. However, it would have to be done really properly or it would just be a disaster.

The thing is, sports are simply not appealing to MMO gamers. I remember playing a game called Hockey Dash back in 2010. It was fun ride while it lasted. Just like Freestyle Street Basketball, you play hockey and only control a player, not the entire team. The thing is, if you have a ball/pot hogger in your team then your team is screwed. MMO gamers want the prestige/accolade/achievements and what have you, which doesn't work with sports as most sports require teamwork.

FreeStyle Street Basketball, Korean Basketball MMO that's pretty much stood the test of time. Arcady game, but its a legit and polished game as opposed to the poorly made sports MMOs out there. It's big enough that they hold a Freestyle World Cup every year (Korea just won the 2012 tournament). Playerbase is a bit lacking so I figured I might as well as adveritse here.

Yea, I'm not sure how you would put this into practice. Basically every sports game now has an online mode where you can climb a ladder, etc. At most, I could see joining a fantasy league with 30 other GM's, where you are the sole owner of a team and the league operates like a real life league. So you're the GM, the coach, and play the on-court games.
