I finished reading Metro 2033 15 minutes ago (awesome book, by the way) when I realised: I really want to play Metro Last Light.

The thing is, I don't have much money, and I've been wanting to ask this to you for some time: Is M:LL a good sequel to M2033? I loved the first game, now I want to hear your opinion about the sequel. Is it worth purchasing? Should I wait for a sale? What's better and what's worse compared to the first game?

Sorry if a similar thread has been created before...

It is a good sequel to metro 2033, some things are lacking like characters being a bit badly handled and stealth being easy. The AI is pretty dumb in certain aspects, but beyond, I personally think it is a 'true sequel'.

Well I haven’t finished playing it yet, but I love it so far. Though I can recall the time when I hated it, (It was the very beginning) because all the major character changes, such as in appearance etc; But if I were you I would get it. May I ask what your price range is and in what platform your planning on getting it in? That doesn’t really matter, because I would have ended up telling you to look for a copy on Ebay. On the first week of release, I bought my copy in PC format on Ebay for $40, brand new; and best of all it was the Limited Edition. So the price should have gone down by about half. Graphics from M2033 has improved a lot, but what has gone down is sneaking around. It is just too easy to kill an entire squad of 15 by lurking through the shadows and slitting their throats. When you play it, I recommend you go all out and pretend you’re Rambo. It has made game play more enjoyable for me.

Definately worth it and definately a "true sequel" .I'm loving almost everything in it (besides some odd and unnecessary character changes). The gameplay mechanics and shooting are fluid and suprisingly well done. Stealth is a bit easy, but actually doable this time around. Sound is awesome, graphics gorgeous. There is some replayability aswell.
The only thing i would complain is Artyom's shadow, but i've noticed Crysis and Crysis 2 use the same technique,so it's forgiven.
I wouldn't wait for a price drop if you can afford it right now-truly,it's worth it.

P.S. Keep in mind though that Last Light plays and feels different. If you're expecting a carbon copy of 2033 you might be left dissapointed.

I'm going to buy it for PC, and if I want, I can buy it right now on Steam. But I don't know, I never bought a game this expensive, so I want it to be really worth the money

You could always wait for the Steam Sale, though I don't know when that is.

I would not buy newly released games on Steam, ever! I like Steam most of the time but their price policy for newly released games is absolutely crazy. A newly released game, Metro Last Light for example, is always upward of 45 EUR on Steam while you can buy it at retailers for lower price--including DVD(s), box, transportation and seller fees. It just does not make any sense.

I bought my copy of the game from a company in my country that sells digital copies of games only for 32.99 EUR--it was limited edition including every DLC piece from the release (RPK, Ranger modes).

Definitely get the game, its awesome. Look for copy of the game at your local retailers or buy it online from reliable sources. Steam should be your last option.

It's not what I wanted to see in a sequel, personally. But it is a good game in it's own right.

I think that Metro Last Light is the best Post-Apocalyptic game I have ever played. 4A games can really capture the essence of the wasted city of Moscow above and below ground. Though Metro 2033 did do a better job showing how the stations looked, but that's my opinion. I just wish they included ranger mode in the actual game. Once you buy and play the ranger DLC it's worth the money. I have the game on XBOX 360. I wish I would have bought it for the PC, because the graphics are better.

I'm sure vitormaduro has made up his mind by now, but in case anyone else is undecided....

Yes, Metro: Last Light is definitely a true sequel, worthy of the name. It is definitely worth having.

Fortunately, MLL doesn't follow the book's sequel (Metro 2034). The book (Metro 2034) just wouldn't have made as good a game, I don't think.

MLL is definitely easier, as far as stealth and gameplay goes. This could be good or bad, depending on your skill level, and how much you liked the first game, Metro 2033. I happened to like M2033 a lot, but it was a little too hard for my taste. On the other hand, a lot of folks liked that about the first game, how tough and unforgiving it was. I happen to like MLL better because it is more polished, it is less harsh and unforgiving, and I find it an over all more enjoyable experience.

I think the graphics took a step backward though, from M2033. Some of the characters in MLL have "plastic hair" syndrome. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see it. Some of the atmosphere and style that I really liked from M2033 is gone. MLL is still pretty though, and it is very detailed over all and very well made. I just think M2033 captured the whole "Metro experience" a little better.

Some of my favorite characters are missing from MLL, but there are a few new ones that make up for it. I love the whole Teatr (Theatre) level, and think it really shines in MLL. There is still plenty of those "oh crap I'm all alone" areas and moments in MLL, so it doesn't disappoint in that respect. But, there are a few places that really stick out as "actiony" or arcade-like. I don't want to spoil anything for you, so I can't say much. Also, the rainy/windy bridge area is just awesome in MLL, as well as some of the swamp areas (above and below ground). Some of the above-ground swamp areas really give me the creeps still. Love them. But, no Anomalies in MLL. Very disappointing. :(

Overall, I think MLL is still my favorite game of the two, despite MLL missing some of the things I really, really liked in M2033. MLL makes up for it in playability. There are still lots of memorable moments and characters, and I just think it's one of the better games to come out lately. Definitely a must-have.

Do not buy it from Steam. You can search on ebay for nvidia codes which will be around £13 now. You can even buy it for £17 new from simply cd keys
    http://www.simplycdkeys.com/steam/metro-last-light

I have no idea which retailers exist in your country, but look around.
