Like seriously? am I the only one seeing this, a once united empire, that upon the death of its king ripped assunder, and the oppressed Northerners (whose sigil is a Direwolf) rise in rebellion? The dragons? I mean they have so many common elements, and not only because they're both of the fantasy genre, even the storyline is kinda similar...
Not at all. I've named my character after my favorite character in Game of Thrones. I love to play, watch Game of Thrones, play some more. Really get into the flow.
Well many role playing games are similar in one way or another. Unless the setting is completely different, you're bound to find similar elements between different media. I would not say their story lines are similar because in Game of Thrones, you have the Lannisters, the Dragonborn, the Starks, the undead of the north, then the other minor factions all vying for some form of power placement in the hierarchy of things. In Skyrim, the dragons are their own faction so to speak and they are considered 'wild' rather than minions of a demi-human Queen. Although in Skyrim, there are the various factions such as the Stormcloaks, Companions, Imperials and such, the stories pertaining to each are quite different than the ones in Game of Thrones.
I have played Skyrim first and only started watching GoT when I sort of finished playing Skyrim (no one is ever finished with Skyrim, right?) so I didn't see the connection at first. But now that you mention it, I do. The snow, the different strongholds, the dragons, ... it all seems similar. Although there are more dragons in Skyrim than in GoT. If anything, Skyrim is the world a couple of 100 years before the start of GoT.
I have never played GoT, but sounds like I have been missing out I might have to pick up the game when I get some extra cash!
It's not a game, it's a TV series. It's about a medieval society and different houses. They also live in a land that is covered in snow for some parts.
Nah, I don't feel that way because this kind of plot is way too common. A lot of mediums use this kind of plot device so not really having the same vibe as you guys.
Both of the stories are built on pretty broad archetypes. There are some really time-tested ways of creating story conflict, and both Game of Thrones and Skyrim make use of them; I wouldn't read too much into it. Think of all the ways that they're different: the different races in Skyrim, the broad settings of Game of Thrones, the specific roots of the conflicts in each... there are plenty of differences. Having civil war, religious differences, and dragons isn't enough to assume anything intentional.
I think that is just a coincidence, Skyrim`s story revolves around an epic hero trying to destroy a world ending menace, Game of Thrones is more a political powerplay kind of story.
Yeah I actually do. What with all the dragons and all the kingdoms and stuff like that. But yeah, I think Game of Thrones is more of the politics rather than the mythology and the fantasy aspect.
Skyrim was supposed to be Game of Thrones game. They were agreed to make a game for it both Bethesda and the staff of George Martin. And when they are making it, Bethesda realized that they want their own world so they decline the offer.
Well, though they both share some similarities...GoT/ASOIAF was based on the War of the Roses which is why it has a strong political slant. In fact it was going to be a fictional retelling of the entire event until Martin got some feedback from others early on that it should be turned into a fantasy rather than a fictional retelling of the War. Bethesda was approached by Martin's team to make a game for GoT, but they were already working on Skyrim at the time, so no Skyrim isn't related to GoT save that the studio's staff are huge fans of GoT.
Dragons? Are there dragons in Game Of Thrones? There are skeletons, white walkers, different factions, but haven't see or read about dragons anywhere. Apart from dragons, though, everything else feel a bit familiar.
Both 'Skyrim' and 'A Song of Ice and Fire' use typical fantasy storylines that you will be able to find in dozens if not hundreds of books and games. They aren't really all that unusual when broken down into their basic components. Its not that the story is unique but rather the players who act out the story that make each of them interesting.
Similarities include but are not limited too: A kingdom fighting a war against a more deviously brutal foe, deception, assassination, theft, magic, swords, orders of all kinds, shadow organizations, characters that you hate and characters that you love, cool ass powers and cool ass weapon, and dragons.
Of course there are going to be similarities with Skyrim and GoT! They are both based off of viking like civilizations! They are both pretty much your standard Role Play fantasy setting. With magic and dragons and what not.
