I'm looking for the best/most active Vanilla WoW server out there. Any suggestions?

I don't play on private servers anymore, but I used to play on Emerald Dream, and I heard it's still doing well. It's designed to be as close to the actual vanilla experience as possible.

I've heard that too. The only thing that sucks about Feenix is that they adopted this new 15x leveling speed bullcrap. Leveling was one of the biggest parts of Vanilla and it's sad to see people compromise on that.

I've always hated spending time levelling. End-game raids and pvp just always appeared to me a lot more.

Yeah but what is a game without being able to say that you worked your tail off for what you have (leveling)? It deteriorates the value of having a level-capped character...

I don't know, private servers to me just seemed to be for raiding and pvp'ing, if I wanted to level, i'd play the actual game. ;x

The 2 most popular I know of are Feenix and Emeral Dream, but I think ED is for TBC or WotLK.
To be honest I've never played on a private server even thought I've thought about it many times. I guess the deal breaker for me is that noone from my friends wants to try it.

Normally, private servers are almost never vanilla because you need a larger group to play the higher levels. You need to have a lot of players from all over the world to play the bigger raids and private servers already tend to be limited in the player capacity.

There are plenty of private servers that have over 20k players and that's more than any high populated realm actually, though you don't really need "plenty" because 1 is more than enough right ?:)

I can verify that ED is Vanilla and not TBC/WotLK.

Thinking of opening an account on Feenix's ED or Warsong server. Really miss these days. I wish their was a Vanilla server that would also add their own custom blizzlike content and continue what Blizzard started.

I have fooled around on Emerald Dream for a year or so and some other servers but they are all still very inaccurate and buggy. They aren't as bad as they used to be but the same things are still broke or don't work 100% blizzlike and they should considering the number of years people have had to work on emulation. Some of it is on ED but a lot is on Trinity and MANGOS who keep forging forward no matter how buggy the support for previous expansions are.

There are some vanilla raiding guilds on the official servers. All of the members just buy vanilla wow and don't upgrade so they get stuck at level 60 content.

That's basically useless. Nearly all of the original content has been altered or deleted altogether. No retail server is going to have anything close to Vanilla WoW, no matter how hard people try.
