A friend of mine came to my house the other day while me and my daughter were playing minecraft. This friend is a huge gaming fan (retro as well) and he told me he would never be able to get into minecraft cause of the simple looking graphics. Anyone have beef with this too?

Eh, not really. I personally like the look of Minecraft, especially with texture packs. It just has it's own 'feel' to it, and I love it :)

No, I actually kind of liked the faux old school graphics thing they try to do and in all honesty it turned out pretty awesome but I mean its mostly because of the limitations of the java engine. I think that now that MS has purchased Mojang, they will do some interesting things with minecraft (lets hope) and one of the things I would guess is switch from the old java engine to something else, not necessarily make a sequel like that but maybe develop in parallel a Minecraft HD or something. It would sell like hot bread.

I actually liked it. What with all the games now with great looking HD graphics that would make your PC cry for help and bloody murder, Minecraft just juts out from the rest and say "Hey, I may look like I'm from the 80's but goddammit I'm a million times better than Call of Duty."

But I wouldn't say no to a Minecraft HD release.

The graphics look cool to me. It's not all day you see something oldschool but not really old school. But I think they should make the game look more, well good. If they decided to make an HD remake I would love to see the same configuration what with all the blocks but is more appealing to the eyes.

No, and considering how much my computer sucks, I cannot complain. If the graphics were more quality I probably would not be able to play the game. However, I have never had a problem with the graphics anyways. I think that the game does not need high graphics, but they would be welcome.

Anyone that judges a game simply because of its graphics isn't much of a gamer, in my humble opinion. Your friend needs to understand that story and game mechanics should always reign supreme over graphics. This is mainly why Pixar is so successful. "Story is King," is there main motto, and it shows.

Before I started Minecraft, I found the graphics to be really bad. However, after I started, I feel like its the way its supposed to be and dont really mind it.

I'm a little annoyed at the cake recipe. No cake needs that much milk...

Strange how he can be a retro gamer and not be into Minecraft's graphics, sounds like he's just a gaming hipster :)
There's so much that makes a game besides graphics, I don't know how he can make that claim.

I like the feeling that minecraft gives you. It synergies with the fact that everything you place is a block. It wouldn't look nice if the graphics were realistic, that would act actually kill the game definite. The graphics define the games theme.

At first, I don't really like the graphics of minecraft. But when, I watched SeaNanners video, I thought that this is fun to play so I gave a shot. And it's fun even though the graphics is hurting my eyes but now I get used to it..

I don't have a beef with the simplicity....more with the pixel images. They're too detailed and it does my head in. I can't focus on it and it gives me major headaches if I play on the default texture pack.

When I switch to another pack though it has this weird flicker thing happening now that they've tried to do that 3d crap, and it's absolutely awful and gives me headaches too.

I remember when they removed the outlines from the food textures as well. I was pretty angry at the time but now I'm so used to it that I don't think I could go back.

You can change the resource pack and add Shaders' to the game to make it look different. The default resource pack turned me off, but the game play itself didn't. Here are a few examples of using the Soartex Fanver resource pack and Shaders:

I think the graphics are fine, and if you want better ones, there are plenty of mods.

Not all the time, but a texture pack always helps with that.

People that have a problem with Minecraft's graphics are more than amusing, and a little bit annoying. The game is designed to be simple in graphics and gameplay alike. It's supposed to be imaginative and nothing like reality, so the basic graphics help achieve that theme.

Nah, it's never bothered me, I feel like it's part of the game. I mean, if they're really that bothersome, you can just change the texture pack or play around with some mods that will make things look different.

The game used to give me headaches too. It had to do with motion sickness. Try doing the following:

    - Set your FoV (Field of View) to 90 or over. I have mine set at 100.
    - Turn off View Bobbing.
    - Play in a brighter room.
    - Don't play when you're very tired.
    - Turn down the mouse sensitivity.
