You know ,everyone says wow is going to crap and its dying and all that. but when I go to try out any other mmo it sucks in comparison to wow. I might just be too attached to wow, I really like the art and playstyle and I have a lot invested into the game. but seriously does anyone else feel that way? like.. why can't people make a super-good mmo like the people at blizz did?

Why you would think of that? Nowdays WoW, to me, is really outdated.. I mean the gameplay that there is on WoW is the same as in other MMORPGs and the graphics there are really awful as for now. I would never play WoW at the moment with games like ArcheAge or GW2 around.

The MMO genre is pretty much a dying tree right about now, to be honest. Yes, WOW may be the big dog, but even WOW is on a steady player decline.

Guild Wars 2 is good, Elder Scrolls Online online is good, Star Trek Online is good, I play all of them when I'm done current content. It's all about personal preference in the end.

I wouldn't say they're all bad, just that there's a lot of MMOs that don't add up to standards of what a good MMO is. I agree with tarverten, though; even WOW seems to be on a decline. The genre in general just doesn't seem to be producing very good content, while a lot of games in the single-player RPG genre are continuously upping the ante of what a great game holds.

ESO is considered a failure of an MMO, so much so you can buy the imperial edition for $10-$15 bucks on the internet. It went F2P (Retail actually meaning you buy a copy of the game and you get access to all content no subscription afterwards) literally a few months after release. The problem I find is too many MMOs try to compete with WoW by doing the same thing as WoW. I still play EQ2 (Yes I know it is slightly older than WoW, but after WoW and a few expacs of EQ2, the community is dead) when I'm bored but I don't think I will ever pay for the game again, last I checked they literally have 2 developers working on expansions, and that is it and by 2 developers I don't mean 2 developer teams, I mean 2 individual people developing it. It also got taken over by another company and sold by Sony.

No, they're not all bad--but it differs because everyone has a different perspective of what a good MMO is. One of the top dogs beside World of Warcraft right now is Guild Wars 2, and I think it will definitely get better with the new expansion pack coming up. There's plenty of other MMOs out there, preferably free ones, that are still decent.

I don´t think they are all bad, and I think it is great that so many of them went f2p because for the most part, the leveling part of games is new and exciting.. it is only after you get to endgame where WOW really crushes the competition. There are many games where the leveling experience is actually much better than WOW.

World of Warcraft is geared to the lowest common denominator. That's why it's so easy to get into and why so many other games don't feel right. I enjoy a lot of MMOs that aren't WoW quite a bit better then I do WoW. the only reason I return is because so many of my friends still play it.

Really, it's just going to be a matter of time before you find one that you like. Though, I have to ask what MMO's you've tried outside of it. Maybe the games themselves just weren't that great.

I think your standards are too high since you played WoW for a long time but there are some pretty good MMOs out there if you're going to search for them.

I loved WoW from Vanilla into BC, left before Lich King. So I may not be qualified to say this - but I've found more polished games other places. WoW is exceptionally fun for it's lore, it's graphical lure of the franchise in its name, and the overall endgame content. Some other MMOs may lack as much endgame diversity, but not all are horrible. I can think of plenty of good MMOs I've sunk time into, like Ultima Online. Everquest 1 and 2. Guild Wars 1 and 2. They're all solid choices, almost as good if not as good as WoW in their own rights for their own reasons.

So no, not every game outside of it is bad. You just have to be willing to accept that Blizzard and other studios do things their own way differently. Open your mindset, give them each a solid go, and you'll find there's plenty of other great choices! Read up some reviews or something.

Obviously, the answer to your question is no, and I think that you know that yourself. It's a dumb question.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! This topic is a really subjective matter, but I will try to give my 2 cents on the matter.

I think that many MMOs out there are really fun, and they do a lot of things right, even better than WoW in some areas. The main problem with modern MMO games is that they try to imitate WoW too hard. Then, they inevitably fail and need to switch business models.

I also think that another problem is the way that some Free to Play MMOs work. Many offer core components only to premium customers, and that is really unfair.

Overall, MMOs CAN be good, but they try too hard.

WoW is like the king of all MMOs right now, but that doesn't mean others aren't good. I think it's really just up to the person who's actually playing to determine whether they like the game or not. Like there's people who don't even enjoy WoW, I know my uncle doesn't like it because it looks to "cartoony." Which that never made much sense to me, but to each their own. I know that DDO is a pretty fun MMO, and it's even free to play but it's probably better to pay because you miss a lot of cor stuff.

Definitely DDO.. Right now, it is my favorite MMORPG, but that is because it is free and I feel like I can play when I want to and I don´t mind if I go weeks without playing. When you pay a subscription, you feel like you need to play, and with WOW, so much stuff is daily or weekly gated, that it makes everything a chore.

Enjoy the decline. MMOs are dying. Hard to find anything original out there, but Tera is fun if you like to grind, GW2 is fun too. I hope someone comes out with a new WoW so to speak. An MMO that will revolutionize the industry. As of now, I wouldn't invest much time in any of them.

Definitely not! Just check out games like Guild Wars, Neverwinter, Star Trek Online or Final Fantasy XIV. WoW is not the king of MMOs anymore and wasn`t for a long time. Only really hardcore fans think so, but to each his own I would say.

WoW never was King. They never surpassed Runescape in paid subscribers and now they are hemorrhaging subscriptions fast. They are down almost 50% from their peak in subscriptions. That said, some of the games you mentioned are pretty good.

Yeah, I always preferred Runescape, until the original guys sold up to Zynga and the game became heavily Pay2Win.

WoW is still pretty fun, but can be rather intimidating for new players I think, so without a constant influx of newbies, obviously a game is going to stagnate and lose players.

WoW has almost everything I want in an MMO game, even if specific aspects of it frustrate me. All other MMO games I've played have awesome things that WoW doesn't have, but they all lack the same things that WoW has that they don't have, or do have but don't work very well. So in the end, I find that WoW caters to my overall sense of fun, while other MMO games have bits and pieces of what makes them stand out.

During the ten years I've played WoW on and off, I have played Tabula Rasa, Pirates of the Caribbean, A Pirate's Tale / Pirates Online, Ragnarok Online, Maple Story, EVE Online, D&D Stormreach, Elder Scrolls Online, Mabinogi, Aion, Star Wars The Old Republic, World of Tanks, Navy Seal, Lord of the Rings Online, City of Villains / City of Heroes, Guild Wars Nightfall, ArcheAge, Final Fantasy XVI, Star Wars Galaxies, Dream of Mirror, Angels Online and about one and a half dozen other MMO games. NONE of them had ever drew me in like WoW did. Many of them had different things that made them intriguing, but none of them motivated me to go back to keep a steady subscription. The closest one that did was Star Wars The Old Republic and EVE Online. I still have Elder Scrolls Online installed and I love the world, the story and the game mechanics, but it's definitely not a WoW epicness game.
