No matter what game I play, there are always groups of people that sit at the bank, or the "hang out" spot in the center of the city, near the auction house, such is the case of WoW. Stormwind seems like the city of inactive players, likely veterans. Has the game lost it's magic on them? Why are they logged in if they aren't going to do anything? It's a mystery to me.

Why do you care what other players do, especially when it doesn't affect you in the slightest?

They're probably most likely waiting for a raid to form or a guild/group related whatever to get together. Or it's just people waiting for LFR or dungeon queues to pop up as well. And then there's people who just like to hang around and chat in game.

Lots of people chat in-game. But more than likely, they are waiting for a raid or dungeon. ;)

Why not just ask the people why they are there? I don't mean "challenge" them, but just ask? There will always be people in a central location in a game, where, as some people have said, they might be waiting for an event. However, central locations are the best place to meet another player, too--it's easy to say, "meet me at the auction house in X" or "meet me at the bank in Y" rather than describing a different place in the game. I used to hate it when my friends would give me a less central meeting place. I'd inevitably get lost and we'd end up spending half our playing time looking for each other.

Some might be gold bots... some might be meeting a player, and some might be waiting for queue event to happen, as others said. I don't think it has anything to do with the game "losing its magic" on them, I think they're just bored of grinding and decided to take a break and just chill. I did that a lot myself, haha.

There are a ton of things in this game that have queues, so waiting in a safe place is a good idea. There are also a lot of people who just like to chat with their guild.
