I feel like many discussions always come back to this topic, as to what free MMO out there is most polished, and doesn't break the bank with a P2W system.

Personally, I've tried Rift, Runes of Magic, Tera, Aion, and a few others, but so many of them get grindy within the first few levels, and it gets boring rather quickly. I'd say of all the ones I've tried so far, Rift must take the cake, keeping in mind that it was originally a P2P title. Runes of Magic was decent as well, though I've heard rumors that it demands money to be competitive at all.

What are your opinions, and what games have you tried? There's so much out there, it's hard to play them all!

I personally think DDO is the best free2play game if you are just playing it casually. The stuff that needs to be bought is stuff you won´t need for hundreds of hours.

If you are a serious player, you can play WOW for free now.. it is pretty easy to use gold to pay for your gametime after a month or two of leveling up.

As for now, TERA is one of the best in terms of premium status and limitations. It doesn't really affect you in the gameplay and you can grow up glorious even playing as a free account without much effort being put on covering the limitations.

Runes of Magic was pretty fun back in the days, nowadays I think it's a dead game. I think Rift is probably the best F2P game--I haven't played it in a long time, but there was a decent amount of content and it was a fun experience, quite similar to WoW too. I don't think a lot of people played it though.

AION - I've played it since beta (europe) and received gold pack for 10 years till arrival of new classes (Bard, Gunslinger).
If you play it as free-to-play you have limited account which means you can't trade with other players, only can have 2 character etc. but you canbuy gold pack (with real cash or in-game cash).

I agree, TERA can definitely compete among the other popular games there currently are available, though I'm not sure if it will last for too long. I mean, int its current phase, I feel like the community is really bad, resembling a bit LoL, haha.

AION is quite an enjoyable game if you'd like to play a free game from this genre. Although the game limits you if you don't pay, you could still have a lot of fun.

I've been playing AION for quite a while now and I quitted it because of the gold pack. Without it you can't access the broker and also you the cooldown for the instances are much higher than the normal so basically you end up strunggling on items that you could buy easly on brokerage.

Star Wars The Old Republic is pretty good. The grinding aspect is an extension to the quests and optional. The big thing about SWTOR is that it's primarily story driven and the ambiance makes up for the lower visual setting. Role playing choices add a touch of flavor to the game as well. If you want more from the game, you can pay a one-time fee or subscribe and get even more stuff.

I would say Rift is a really good game. It combines aspects of both WoW and Guild Wars, and has pretty good graphics as well. I also love the fact that you can basically combine three different classes, and create a unique hybrid class. Feels a bit like Dungeons and Dragons.

Best depends on what you want. But I'd have to say my 3 top picks are Champions Online, Neverwinter and Tera. As they offer the most content, have minimal transactions and overall are easy to get into and have funw ith some friends.

I would go for Tera or Rift. The Old Republic would not be a bad choice either but you'd have to invest some real money later down the line.

I would also go with Tera. You can still level up and become a high-level player without spending a dime.

I would say DDO is a pretty solid free to play. You get most of what you need for lower levels and you get pretty much all content that you need. I would say that some downsides to it are that some people who pay the subscription don't like to play with people who are on f2p but they're just brats in my opinion, oh and you're not gonna be able to do some dungeons. Basically like most f2p it's to just get a feel of the game, but I think it's really well done and worth a try even if you end up not liking it.

TERA online is pretty amazing, and I found myself greatly enjoying Echo of Soul, the I wouldn't recommend interacting with it's user base and just getting your friends to play along with you. EoS is a game that's made to be played with friends so you'll find a tough time if you go into that alone.

Elder Scrolls online and Lord of the Rings are supposed to be good as well as long as you don't take it too seriously. I haven't played them myself though.. ;;^-^
