For new and old MMO games, what do you think are some of your biggest pet peeves for MMO games? Mind you, bugs are a given and will never change no matter the advancement of technology. For me, it would have to be the pre-hyped-up players which praise the game endlessly, then when the game launches with problems, they come back and bite the developers on the butt with mass hate and ignorance, coupled with a strong sense of entitlement.

    How about you?

I don't like MMOs that make you focus on grinding more than anything else because I feel it makes the game mindless. I know grinding is part of the genre for the most part, but the best games manage to make it not seem so tedious and soul-crushing.

I really couldn't have said it better. I can't stand grinding in games and getting diminishing rewards as a result. If I have to do more work to get a smaller reward, it instantly becomes a lot less fun for me to do whatever task it is.

Being able to do the exact same quest with the same results regardless of race, profession or skills. There's no reason a gnome should be doing dwarf or half-elf racial quests or for one profession to be trying to do tasks meant for another. I also dislike MMO's that use the same npc in multiple cities and factions. Come up with some originality, especially for quest givers.

What I absolutely HATE are worlds that claim to be fantasy or purely custom yet still bring in modern holidays just to make money off the players. Come up with your own holidays that don't mimic real ones and stop charging real money for seasonal only content.

I agree with you guys that I also hate repeating the same quest for ages without achieving good results.

Obviously, most of us do not like grinding. There should be more creative and fun ways to level up instead of keep killing respawns after respawns on the same spot just to get a few % of a level each hour. It was getting old and boring from the very beginning.

    Stupid quests too annoy me.
Go kill 10 wolves and report back to me.
Go kill 10 goblins and report back to me.
Go deliver this, go deliver that... etc.

I'd rather go through some interesting quests which actually involves both thinking and skills.

I hate bosses which are just bigger stronger enemies. I want them to talk and have special abilities to give you a challenge. Static boring quests are also really annoying on MMO games. No one wants to kill X amount of Y!

any game that relies on grinding as a main for of "entertainment" is something i do not have any interest in. when i was younger grinding was the best thing in the world because it gave me something to do. now that i am older with a real life i can help but be turned off by the repetitive nature of grinding games.

Well, the grind is the most loathe aspect of a MMO. I wouldn't mind it if it was a bit more interesting. Why does it have to be boring always?

Paying excessive amounts of money just to keep current with the game, whether that's upgrades, updates, or DLCs. This is why I don't pay to play MMORPG anymore, it's not worth the money.

Grinding. It's probably the worst thing for me when it comes to MMO's. I don't play that many MMO's but every time that crappy thing shines I just bail out.

Having to walk and walk and walk and walk before you can even get to your destination. I hate it. Most games do this when you explore for the first time you have to really walk and 'explore' for 2 hours only to get into an actualy gameplay for 11 minutes and then walk again for 2 hours and so on.

My biggest dislike in MMORPGs? I have to say when they fix something that wasn't broken and complex things. Two cases are in Tera: Respawn rate and modifying outfits. There wasn't anything wrong with the respawn rate either everything spawns 15 seconds now. That was suppose to be only for BAMs, but it effected ALL.THE.MONSTERS! Do you know how annoying that is when you're trying to recover and then another mob comes to try to kill you AND you're low on health and magic?! Seriously, Bluehole?! Then there was the modifying of weapons and outfits. I had no problem going to a major town and just giving what's needed to make it. Of course, they nixed that idea and thought: "Hey! Kill Bams for rare drops off tickets to get the outfits you want!" I hate when big companies have "bright ideas" like this. -.-

I think pre-2003 or 2004 MMOs were wonderful. They were new and exciting. Your characters were young, and hungry and eager to fight or work a trade for hours to skill up. Today's players are too lazy for that. They want to walk into a game like gods, having never lifting finger to accomplish it. WoW is currently offering to level up a character to 90 instantly when you buy their latest disc. Even older games like Ultima Online now have characters you can buy with skills maxed out. This tarnishes the way the game used to be.

Personally, my least favorite quests are the escort quests... the NPC's move WAY too slowly, they almost never help fight, I always get overrun, and it's just boring and feels pointless... Also, those quests where NPC's tell you to gather something that's literally 5 feet away from them... I always find myself saying, "Really? You couldn't just pick this flower by yourself, dude?" Lol.. just feels unrealistic and unnecessary, but that's just my opinion.

Level/Gear grinds. They're boring, there's nothing intuitive about them and honestly it'd be nice to incorporate some sort of platforming or puzzles into said quests. Kill 10 things, ect is overrated. As for gear, I'm kind of tired of having to chase gear for stats, I'd be more motivated to collect gear for looks instead.

Questing/leveling grinds are the worst. However, in games like SWTOR, where all questing is voice acted, I can thoroughly enjoy! :)

I have to agree about the escort quest. I hate everything about them. There to slow? You have to wait for them. Oh, There getting killed by enemies? Got to stop moving and kill the baddies.

It is more of an a annoyance than anything. I dread these missions.

My biggest dislike in MMOs is how developers are so afraid to change the formula when something works, even if it's not good. In the short term, this helps with subscriber retention, but in the long run, people won't stay.

There are obvious things like daily quests, escort quests, and the like. But it goes deeper than that for me.

Think of World of Warcraft's battlegrounds. They have been using Alterac Valley for a decade now. The map literally hasn't changed. The objectives have, a little, but by and large it is the same thing it was 10 years ago, and it's not a fun map. It's hardly even about PvP. No one goes into Alterac Valley because they enjoy it, but somehow, Blizzard hasn't really touched it.

Half the game is designed around PvP balance, but a PvP, that the vast majority does not enjoy, but is forced to play, is just ignored. The only argument I can make on their behalf is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," and true, it's not broken, but the map doesn't serve its purpose of a fun, engaging PvP map.

This turned into a pretty big rant, but that is one of my biggest gripes.

For me, my biggest dislike is when the games starts to lag due to too many players on screen at one time. I would assume that they would be prepared for that kind of thing, but for the most part MMOs always lag. Besides the lagging, I don't think that I can find anything wrong with MMOs.
