Building tips?

    I don't know about you guys, but when I first started building in Minecraft, all of my houses looked like lego bricks. Until I took an architecture class, my homes did not look like anything but nomadic tents. Sometimes, though, I see people build these immaculate homes with such brilliant ideas to place down objects that look like, say, a toilet or a fishbowl. So what ideas do you guys usually build off of to create your structures?

    Just try to use a variety of blocks. It's best if you learn how to implement blocks like stairs and slabs into your build. They may be small, but can add a lot of detail to your builds. That's probably one of the biggest things for sure - using a variety of blocks. I'd suggest using clay because it's really versatile. They can add a lot to your builds because of the variety of color choices. Plus, it looks really good!

    I usually build buildings out of things I know can withstand some sort of attack, even if it is in creative mode or the setting is on peaceful, I still have to build it out of some material that can take a few sticks of tnt and not get completely destroyed.

    I generally build buildings or at least tall houses with a bunch of floors so there is not really much to add to the exterior. However, I like placing long hallways in my house that inter-connect. Sort of like a maze. It's pretty fun to map out.

    I usually take inspiration from other people's work. Either I go on a creative server or download world showcases and then try to replicate what I've seen in my own survival or creative world. I myself am not that creative :/
