Apparently ANet has changed their stance on which items are to be sold in their cash shop. This change was made to the FAQ on the GW2 Wiki by an ANet employee.

Thanks to Faer on Guru for finding this information.

So what does this mean? It means that the countless hours you just spent wading through digital demons and virtual vipers to get the "Shiny Symbol of Sex and Soul" instead of nuking that ready Mac-n-Cheez for your chubby little kid, Dicky, who still bites his nails, picks his nose, and smells his fingers after taking a dump, can now be bought in 2 minutes by Billy the Brat who just turned 12 and got GW2 for his birthday. Doom and gloom? Yeah, I get that way sometimes, especially when there's a chance to tell a cute little story. Eh, that's my take on it anyway...

EDIT: Would buying an item, that would otherwise take in game time to acquire, be considered an "advantage?" If not, what would be an advantage? Potions?

Whhat. The "new" one sucks. It's saying we can buy items through the cash shop that would take others lot of time to achieve in game, aka giving others a big short-cut.

This sounds like a troll change....

I see nothing wrong with this. I'd rather earn my items, through gameplay, anyway. Remember GW1 cash shop, where you could unlock all the skills of the game? Also remember how you could just run around collecting the skills on your own without buying em? Same thing...

This type of cash shop only becomes a problem when they start selling epic quality items or "raid" gear. Anything inbetween is acceptable as long as the items bought aren't more powerful than what can be earned through playing the game.

Well nothing has changed, this is exactly how it was done in GW.
