Do you think it'll be necessary to join a clan when playing the Division? I know it's an MMO, but do you think you can still have a good experience playing it without grouping or joining a clan? With the focus on PvP and the Dark Zone, it sounds like trying to make it on your own is a death sentence. Grouping and the safety in numbers is the way to go. Does that turn you off of the game, the "forced" grouping?
Nope, I enjoyed having guilds and grouping with other players in the various MMORPGs I played (WoW, Dragon Nest etc.). I know it kind of feels forced but I would've formed/joined a guild anyway, so it doesn't bother me!
You have read my mind there Cyborg, I'm a traditional lone-wolf player. There have been advantages to this style of play in all the games I love and I would hope The Division has similar advantages for the antisocial types like myself. There has not been too much said about the stealth mechanics as yet and I'd like to know more about them in order to see if lone-wolfing is going to be a viable play style. If teaming up has all the advantages, then I'll have to play that way but it would be a bit of a negative aspect for me.
I'm of the same mind, and you're right that we'll have to wait and see how the stealth works. I just don't always want to rely on grouping because the reality is that pick up groups can be quite crappy when you're in an MMO. Sure, if you find a good guild, you're usually all set, but that's not always possible, and people aren't always around. I hope single player will still be a viable way to play.
I'm going to play it with friends probably, so I hope there's at least a party system. A clan sounds like a little too much for this kind of game to be honest.
Really? I would think that a clan would fit perfectly in this type of game, as the whole Dark Zone seems geared towards teamwork and working together as a team. I'm guessing some kind of voice chat will be necessary too, in order to really get the jump on other teams.
Yes, pick up groups are not always a good thing. Maybe its just me, but I don't usually manage to find a good guild in any MMO, maybe once or twice, but generally speaking I seem to run into a lot of the kill-on-sight crowd, hence my preference for single player style. The stealth issue is a big concern, theres been a lot of speculation about it, it seems it will be present on Pve but not real used in PVP, which is going to cause me a lot of problems if its true.
Those kinds of people used to piss me off whenever I started up an new MMO, especially in Rust. Couldn't even run around with a bow and someone would kill you so they could take your food....
I think the game makes more sense in a scenario where everyone is a lone wolf, but sometimes form groups for personal gain. Remember it's also a game of betrayal where you can shoot your own teammates in order to keep the loot you found together by yourself. So a party system would make sense just to recognize your momentary allies from the other folks, but not a guild because it would mean that there are people that are always completely trustworthy: it doesn't suit the themes of this game well honestly.
When you put it that way, I see what you mean. I personally like the idea of the lone wolf, but trying to convince some people to team-up would be beneficial as well. I'm really anxious to see what the solo/single player aspect of this game will be. So far we've seen team play, but no single player portions.
Well it's an MMO so it's apparent that guilds will be a thing. I also think it's going to be the main theme of the game, since the game is called 'The Division" you probably have to join certain groups in order to survive. Although I'm not so fund of guilds since most of the time I'm used to playing alone and it would be a cool idea to have the players choose between going solo or joining a guild or a clan.
As most MMO's go it's probably going to be an option, although I would love to have the choice of just going solo and finishing off a mission on your own and not sharing the loot. But I think it's essential to have some sort of alliance in the game.
I bet the game is super hard if you try to play it all the way through by yourself. They'll make you look for allies down the road in order to proceed probably, so that interaction with players is inevitable one way or the other.
It's never necessary to join a clan in these types of games. It can be very fun to find one and play with that clan all the time though. I'm not gonna actively look for a clan, but I might join one eventually.
You're in luck because Ubi confirmed you'll be able to play the game solo all the way through. True that it's never necessary, but they usually sweeten the pot and make you group by giving you bonuses/benefits for grouping and joining a guild, etc.
Really? I get the sense that the whole point of the game is to team-up, so clans are a perfect fit. It's an MMO after all, clans have been a staple of online multiplayer games since the beginning of time, lol.
Maybe not needed, but they definitely seem like an important factor in the game. I almost always run solo in MMOs but I can already tell I'm going to join a clan in this game. Teamwork looks like it'll be way more enjoyable compared to the MMOs I usually play.
Being in a team you can trust seems overpowered honestly. I think solo players will have a bad time trying to fight other people who play together.
Hopefully not. I'm more of a lone wolf kind of guy, I don't really work that well in groups. I work best alone, doing what I want, going wherever I want to go, at any time I want to. I like playing with friends, but I don't like playing with strangers. It feels very restrictive and while it might be cool, it's just not for me.
