I have the SNES but never owned any RPG on it because I haven't gotten into the genre as a kid. What were the famous ones on the old SNES other than Final Fantasy, Zelda, and the Chrono series?
Well there's Super Mario RPG which I've heard was fantastic. Earthbound, Secret of Mana and those are just the basics. You should take a look at this for more. http://www.listal.com/list/rpg-world-snes-edition
I won't mention the Chrono Triggers, Secret of Manas and Final Fantasy games of the world because everyone will do that. Instead, I'll bring some to your attention that not many have played. Games like Actraiser, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Secret of Evermore. Those are the kind of games that the world never truly recognized for the SNES.
Thanks for the link, I never knew that there were so many RPGs on the Snes. Maybe I wasn't paying attention or really knew what is the RPG genre when I was a kid.
Ah, this is right up my alley. The SNES is my favorite system ever. Chrono Trigger is the obvious number one, far and away. Others: Final Fantasy IV Final Fantasy VI Secret of Mana Secret of Evermore Ogre Battle Soul Blazer Also, not an RPG, but A Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past is the best Zelda ever and one of the best games on the SNES. If you haven't played it, don't miss it!
The only types of games I owned on an snes where either DK or Super Mario, but you can try some of these games below they might be worth checking out! http://whatculture.com/gaming/10-awesome-snes-rpg-series-you-must-play-before-you-die.php
Another game on the SNES that's worth checking out (which is not yet mentioned in this thread) is Front Mission 3. The game is a strategy-RPG. You don't go roaming around towns and engaging in quests. But you do engage in fierce robot fights, enjoy leveling up, and experience the excitement of trying out new equipment and gear.
There's some really awesome RPG's that were released on the SNES. My favorites are definitely Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Super Mario RPG. There are a lot of other ones but you should try these if you haven't already.
Like others have said Super Mario RPG is pretty good. While it isn't the best RPG available on the SNES I myself have put a good 30 hours playing Super Mario RPG. Definitely worth a shot if you haven't played the game just yet.
Wow, I didn't know there was a Super Mario RPG. I should definitely check that one out. I have a SNES emulator on my Raspberry Pi so this could be an ideal game to try it out!
