Could it be game of the year?(2014)

You are completely delusional... Yes this game is pretty.. but I see absolutely nothing game breaking, innovative or new as far as story, controls or online go. It's a very attractive hack and slash. I'm worried it will wind up being repetitive and linear. They have not talked about any puzzle elements to the game or the ability to do anything else other then hack and slash down linear corridors. They did mention the command thing where your with a group of guys throwing spears at the enemy or taking down archers etc., but this doesn't look to be that involved. You simply walk forward and tap a button when it prompts you. I didn't see anything that lead you to believe there was any really choice in those gameplay sections.. no consequences or options. Just timed button prompts... blah.... Just looked pretty... Even the little game play things seemed nerfed or restricted.. like for instance, have you seen one video...or even one photo.. where you were using something other then a shield and sword??.. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you will be stuck the entire campaign, and it looks like multiplayer too.. with nothing but the same sword and board combination the entire time.... what about hand axes, pole arms, staves, spears, long swords, battle axes, maces, clubs, daggers, a butter knife!!!... anything!!!! other then the same three weapons I've seen in every single photo or video of this game.. They could have at least given us variations of different swords and shields and that spear you use as a ranged weapon in game.. but no... All I'm saying is that while the game looks beautiful, it seems to be lacking heavily in so many other departments.. I'm not sure at all how someone would think this game would be GOTY material.. You are blinded by your enthusiasm. In the end though I hope they change a lot of the things I'm talking about in the game and I hope I was wrong about many of my assumptions and they just have not shown it yet... because if I'm right.. Ryse could be one of the years biggest disappointments considering all the potential it has....

 

Nothing about this game could make it game of the year worthy unless there were no other competitors for the award. The big draw for this game is that it's a historical and it looks very pretty which are... I suppose... good enough reasons to buy the game. However everything else about the game lets it down. It's a good gimmick as a launch title. But once you've played it for a few hours it will become trade in.

 

Yeah, it's a bit more appealing as a "tech demo" demonstrating what next gen systems are capable of, and while the story and gameplay hold up, it obviously isn't Christ's second coming. It's enjoyable, and it's fun. Not fun enough to warrant an award though.

This is from the perspective of someone who has only seen gameplay videos and trailers though, don't take my word for it.

 

Yeah, I wouldn't go that far either. It's cool, it's a great game for a new generation of a console. It might be one of my favorite games of the year, but award winning like that? I don't really think so.
