Creating roofs on houses is very difficult!

Is it just me?! Or is everyone else just satisfied with having a flat roof for the most part? I've seen people use stairs and just plain blocks to create a more triangular roof, but is there anyone out there who has come up with more unique and different designs? I just hate how it either looks way too plain and ugly or generic looking every time I attempt to build a roof. Then again, maybe my skills are just lacking. I've tried to create dormers before, but failed with the awkward and blocky positioning.

I'm just satisfied with a flat roof for the most part. I normally like to put on more floors on top of my house, later in game so leaving the roof flat is nice. I like making towering buildings so I don't waste time and resources going around the place. I guess it's all up to your preference, but building roofs is annoying, yes.

It's not that hard in my opinion. You just use stairs of your choice and just pile them. I personally find that brick stairs look really nice, but wooden stairs also look great too. You just have to start from the bottom to the top. I think that it's easier this way.

Actually it's not that difficult to make a less plain looking ceiling than a completely flat one. Just start with a flat roof, then slowly replace certain blocks to form a satisfying and great looking, cohesive design. That is what I usually do anyway, and you can either implement a uniform design or a minimalist, abstract configuration, both look pretty nice for a roof.

It's really not that hard. I usually leave a flat roof but sometimes I may put on a triangular roof to make it look nicer. You just have to experiment with different colors and designs.

Its not that hard for me since I have been playing for a while now. My technique is to start one block away from the actual wall of the house and start to build inwards by one block surrounding the walls and done.

I like complicated roofs. They do take a while, yes, but I love the outcome. Using stairs, slabs all the sorts. Just to make the house look extra nice. It'll could take a little while, but so what. The finished product is always so cool to look at.

Basically, this. While it does take a bit more time, you could play around and just try out different ideas for roofs, maybe search through google for different ideas. We often learn the quickest by using references, and It'd be a lot easier for you.

Creating a slanted roof in Minecraft I know must be hard because the only slants that I can think of are 45 degrees. So I just make it one block higher one block in and then add staris around it, to make it look like half a roof pretty much.

I've known some people to create domes for their roofs. To do so, you have to create a sphere across the entire open space that you want your roof to exist within. There's a better tutorial out there than I can give you for this sort of thing.

However, make a sphere in the empty space, and then mine up, taking away the bottom half of the sphere and voila!

Most of my homes in Survival mode are made from digging in to a side of a giant mountain or hill, so there is usually no need for me to do much with the roofing. The few times that I do actually build a house from scratch, I usually add a few stories to it and then make a triangular roof. I agree with you in regards to how bad flat roofs look. I like my roofs to have some style to it.

Yeah, but you can make some pretty neat designs even with that. The stairs definitely help make the roof less choppy though.

I did recommend using stairs. But if you like flat roofs, then I'd prefer SLABS, not full blocks, but slabs! For some reason, they look better in the interior. The exterior looks the same, but it does look better inside. Stairs are always good, especially for the edges.

I am also a Flat Roofer for the most part, but only because every single one of my attempts to add a traditional roof to my houses usually end up lopsided and ugly. I'm generally pretty satisfied if the top layer of blocks on my house is a different color than the walls. Perhaps I would be better off watching some tutorials!

I get where you're coming from. It's usually easy to go with a flat or stair case roof.

Lately I like to build round buildings with spherical roofs though, they look so much more unique and more interesting and they're not that hard to create really. I usually use this tool to plan out the sphere/half sphere first!

I'm pretty sure I've seen people use the "no clip" command, but I don't think that's allowed on the main server. I've never played MC myself to know this for sure. It's one thing to watch a video. I assumed that it works similar to Everquest Next Landmark, where you could raise blocks in the air and place them where the arrow is pointing. Come to think of it, Minecraft is not very 3D is it? I mean, sure you could move in different ways, but the building part is very N,E,W,S and no odd angles.

I tend to favour building roofs out of stairs staggered around 3-4 levels high depending on building size, then filled in with glass to create a nice skylight. Using fences around the top of the roof bordering the skylight can also be a nice way to decorate a rustic house, like a farmhouse or log cabin.

For patios/porches I prefer using wooden slabs to create a flat roof with fences for support beams and railings. Looks great!

Just experiment with wooden and stone stairs, plus fences for trim. You might come up with something great!

I always roll on a flat roof, it's to really build a proper roof not unless you're in Creative mode. But for the most part I just stick with the plain and simple. I always play Survival so it's a risk to climb up your roof and try and figure out how to make a damn triangular roof.

Flat roofs are situational. Mostly they are for modern houses and if done incorrectly, it will not work. Remember, generally roofs look better with a slope. The steepness of a slope determines the age/style. More steep-> more antique; more flat-> more contemporary. Also a small protip: trim under the roof almost always complements it. Here's a picture of my current abode as reference, notice the steepness and trim.
