Did you ever use MGR as ammo in Metro 2033 / do you think you will in Last Light?

This is something I'm simply curious about :)

In Metro 2033 I never used MGRs as ammo, because I always tried to explore and found enough ammo. Or bought new ammo if I ran out after a big mutant fight I failed at *cough Librarians*. I ended up with a ton of MGR near the end just by exploring and finding my own gear instead of buying it.

I've seen press run out of bullets and switching to MGRs in Last Light, and always felt like I should tell them they are being wasteful. But maybe that's just how I play myself.

    What about you?

In 2033 I used majority of the time Volt Driver, Helsing and knife which meant I had loads of military grade amo. The only time I did use it was by accident because loading green bullets wasn't visually clear nor did the HUD make it obvious.

The guns in 2033 were brilliant and gave a sense of being home made with poor accuracy and recoil, so guns like the Bastard needed to have some control in order not to waste amo and to be more accurate.

Additionally the way MGRs were scattered around and treated as currency in 2033 made me want to look in every nook and cranny if my air time allowed, and I'm sure there was an achievement for finding every single one too which made exploration more worthwhile and satisfying.

If anything I thought maybe there was too much dirty rounds as I had so many that I just sold them at the vendor locations for MGR.

The great thing about Metro is that if you play "spray and pray" then you better pray you have enough bullets left for your next engagement because the fail states or lack of manual saves may mean you need to start the level again if you die afterwards.

Recollecting knives, arrows and amo from dead bodies always meant I had enough amo. But I do wish that LL encourages use of MGR for tough mutants (Rhino, Librarians and Demons) and Enemies who wear armoured suits because they should always be hard to take down and should consume dirty rounds.

Yes, i love using mgrs, especially after polis. But really when i play 2033 the only thing i buy is the heavy armor in armory station. So, unlike many others im not buying stuff left and right meaning i can use them as i please.

Not that its necessary, even normal rounds kill fast on ranger mode, so its nbd.

On almost all of my playthroughs of 2033 I save up all my ammo till Armory and convert everything into MGRs and whatever other ammo I'm gonna use for the rest of the game. After that I pretty much exclusively use MGRs in my main weapon.

I only used MGRs to convert them into "Dirty Bullets". Never used them to buy weapons or shoot enemies.

Typically don't use MGR until D6 when I'm loaded up with them, typically start using them to take out the amoeba pods. I never noticed too much damage difference as opposed to dirty bullets, and I always had a healthy supply of dirty bullets on hand so never really mattered.

I use MGR just as much as dirty bullets, because I don't buy anything - maybe except the occasional .44 rounds. So I use MGR for when I'm in a pinch and need something accurate and powerful. After Polis I usualy have around 600 MGR so I use them as my ammo from there on.

  11. I have always used MGRs. This is why:

I will do the same in Last Light as well.

Only during one of four playthroughs did I ever fire MGRs, which was during the amoeba section - when I played the game for the first time on the Normal difficulty. I never felt the need to use them as ammunition ever again, even on my Ranger Mode playthroughs. I just always looked around and played stealthily much of the time, so I never ran out of dirty rounds.

This, simply because it's towards the end of the game and the only remaining enemies after this level are watchers.

I also use MGRs whenever I'm killing humans in Dry Station and Black Station. I've had too many experiences where dirty ammo just doesn't kill the person, etc.
