Did you have a manual or did you just figured things out on your own?

When I first played Minecraft I had no idea what I'm doing. I never bothered reading the manual because I thought the game was self explanatory enough but it turns out that it's not. Before I even know how to craft a wooden sword I had spent 5 hours just punching dirt and trees and just building dirt castle with wooden floors.

I thought the game was either broken, boring or just too hard for me to play but when I found out that you can make things by lining them up together I was just blown away, I thought it was genius. It's the only game I've played where I had to use my creative imagination just to make an axe. Needless to say playing Minecraft for the first time without bothering to read any instructions will give you a headache but it was the most rewarding headache you'll ever feel.

Once you figure out the basic elements and how to craft it's really all you need to know to start with, I had to ask a friend for mining tips though, but that's about all I've had outside help with pretty much, never watched any videos or tutorials because I didn't want to take away from the experience.

I watched tutorials on youtube, so I had a little help, although most of the newer things I just kinda read in the changelogs and can work out

I read the manual cover to cover and kept it there for reference when I found something I wanted to do and didn't know how. That is what the manual is for after all.

I could not for the life of me figure out how to do anything. I had to use the wiki and a recipe list.
I used youtube, any resource I could get my hands on I would use. Minecraft is a great sandbox but it isn't really a game you can just go in and know how to craft everything. Unless you are on the xbox. It is handed to you on there.

When I first started out, I had to use the wiki to figure out how to craft a couple of things, but other than that I pretty much just experienced the game. You're right, it was pretty rewarding to figure it out.

I watched videos and livestreams long before I got the game, so I knew how to craft everything when I first opened the client. I would definitely have a lot of problems trying to find out all the different recipes on my own. I would definitely look it up online because I wouldn't have the patience to figure it out on my own.

I started watching videos more and then reading a few things online. I was doing a few things on my own, but after a while I started needing some help. I actually just kind of started, so everything is still basically new to me. I am getting the hang of the game and trying to see if I like it or not. I am such a huge Dark souls player right now other games are like blah to me haha. I am having fun at the moment playing the game.

I used to wiki to find out how to craft some recipes, but besides that I learned by myself.

I didn't ever really follow a manual. I just figured things out as I went along, but sometimes if I didn't know how to make something, I would look it up or watch a video on Youtube. It didn't take me very long to get the hang of it.

There wasn't much of a manual when I started so I just went with it and experimented and learned from friends.

Well friends helped me with all the basic things to start, I admit I used this app on my phone that gave me all the recipes for everything at the time and I had to use that as a cheat sheet when making some stuff. These days I know how to make the basic stuff really well, probably have to look up the more advanced things still.

When I first started, I wandered aimlessly, died, and then asked someone for help. Luckily, my brother had the game before I did, and he showed me the ropes!

Watching "Let's Plays" on Youtube initially made me very interested. I went from punching trees by tapping (and realizing that I had to HOLD the mouse about an hour later) to playing hours on end and recording my own Let's Play videos. The game was so appealing because at the time, there was nothing like it. I remember I would look up guides and eventually deem them useless. The only guide I actually used thoroughly was the crafting table guide.

The basics are really easy to grasp, so I just jumped right into the game. I learned as I went, and I feel like I learned everything without having to consult a guide or a tutorial. There are plenty of things you could miss, though.

I only knew about the basic things initially. Glad there's the internet, I visited forums and watched videos on Youtube. There are a ton of useful tutorials on the net that helped me a lot.

The best part about a new game is learning how to play it! Don't ruin the experience by reading a manual.

I pretty much started playing without knowing anything. I fooled around a lot and learnt by playing.
I also played a lot with an expert friend, who helped me a lot to understand the more complicated stuff in the game

Nope. Same as you I just went completely nuts trying to figure out the game. I mean for starters the game just goes like this: Here's an island. There's a tree. Do something. I don't know in your versions of Minecraft but in mine there's no such thing as a manual or anything.

I definitely had to reference the wiki a lot back when I first started playing. I think guessing around to figure out crafting recipes would just take forever otherwise.
