As much as I like Disgaea as a series... I feel as though that I need to stop buying the initial release of each installment, since they always seem to make an improved, expanded version of the game on a handheld system. I'm lucky to have purchased Disgaea 3 on the PS Vita, but I bought Disgaea 4 for the PS3, thinking that they might not do this. I'm not sure why I thought it wouldn't happen. Maybe I'll get this installment... maybe. Maybe I'll get it when it's on sale.
Gotta keep in mind that Disgaea 4 came out on PS3 in 2011 and Disgaea 4 Vita is coming out 3 years later. It took 3 years for Disgaea 3 Vita too, I think? If you can handle that wait and don't go crazy hyped wanting the game right away, then I would definitely recommend waiting for the handheld versions. The wait from one handheld version to the next handheld version seems to be around the same time that it takes between console releases, anyway. The handheld versions so far seem to be vastly superior due to having all the DLC content included plus some new stuff... and portability! So waiting might be a very good idea.
Since I already have a problem finishing games for the most part, I could probably stand to wait a few years for each Disgaea to go portable. Besides, I'm terrible at tactical RPGs.
Unrelated, but how were those Disgaea platformer games about the Prinnies? I can't tell if they were good or bad, but they do seem interesting.
I played the first one but didn't beat it, apparently the second was worse but I don't know. Anyway, it's a really hard game, it's similar to Ghosts 'n Goblins. I forget the story but I remember there was something about getting some awesome dessert for Etna and so she sends like 999 Prinnies (you have 999 lives in the game) to go fetch the awesome dessert or whatever. Disgaea's humor is definitely there but it's a much less serious games than the main entries (amazingly). It's extremely fun and the music is excellent, but it can be frustrating at times due to how insanely hard it can be. Lots of button smashing for aerial attacks, spinning to avoid damage and of course there's a throw mechanic included. There's also a ranking system and the boss fights are reall fun. I'd recommend it to anyone that likes Ghosts 'n Goblins and wants a similarly hard platformer.
