Do you have trouble keeping animals inside fences on servers?

I used to have a LOT of trouble keeping animals in, especially on older servers. I think some stuff has been done to recent versions that helps....but still on those servers running mods on older versions I run into this issue. I've literally lost whole chicken and pig farms to glitches...

So it took me a while and then I found a solution that looks good too :D.

Yep it used to be horrible. I noticed it with my sheep first, because they were colored and there is now way there could spawn colored sheep outside of the fence.... I tried several methods like double high fence and made them 2 blocks wide but nothing helped they just glitched out whenever you weren't looking :(.

I did actually run into this problem quite a lot. I believe it might have been something to do with the old animal AI. I often came to my farm to find animals standing (spinning and jumping even) on my fence posts even though there was no way for them to be there; nothing to stand/jump from. Obviously since you're playing on a server this problem is amplified since servers experience lag from time to time, which only adds to the problem. In 1.7.x though, I don't really notice this problem anymore. Is it still there? I only really play single player so I wouldn't really know.

Yeah it can be pretty bad sometimes still but I assume that is because I always end up breeding animals a lot more often than I slaughter them so they fill up a smaller pen pretty quickly.

I haven't noticed it recently but I have noticed a lot of animals spinning on cobblestone walls. I think it had more to do with logging in and out...when you logged out they would sometimes come back on the other side or on top of the fences.

I do notice chickens drive me INSANE getting stuck in fences still. I've tried several fixes for that but nothing works yet.

It used to happen alot with the older versions of the game due to the way the game handled chunks and offscreen-loading. There are some mods that you can download to help but to be honest I haven't encountered this issue for a very long time now. I won't dig out the old patch notes but this has been addressed several times in the past.

That solution is really clever Alunny LOL, cool vid

I used to have a lot of problems with keeping animals in the older versions. I think it was full of bugs, but most of them eventually got fixed. I think it's way better now.

Oh man, I remember trying to build a farm for a custom map, and the animals kept bunny hopping above the fences. I had to build the fences on top of eachother just to keep them in, but it didn't look good, so I had to wait for a later version to fix it. This glitch essentially delayed my custom map by a few months, just because the pigs and sheep wouldn't stay inside the fences.

Haha! That used to happen to me a lot, chicken noises coming from seemingly nowhere only for me to find them stuck in blocks that make up my house. It's like having rats in the walls. XD

Personally, I don't use fences. I'm prefer to set aside rooms with some kind of airlock so I can get in and they can't get out. I tried fences for a while but discovered that they were just way too annoying for me to use personally. I maaaay have kept thinking I could jump them and getting myself stuck and whatno. Eventually I decided they weren't worth the hassle and began using rooms. I've never had any real problems with just using full rooms but I have noticed that occasionally an animal will suffocate on nothing. I'm not sure what causes it but whatever was doing it is pretty slow and hasn't killed huge amounts of animals so I never really bothered to look into it. Besides, a missing chicken every now and then never hurt anyone. Not with how quickly you can amass those suckers.

I still have trouble keep animals in. Of course I stopped using fences and started just building entire rooms dedicated to the animals. The animals that give me the most trouble are chickens, I don't know what it is about them but they seem to glitch through walls.

They do glitch through walls. Nowadays I make a 3x10 fence and break the chickens in there. I can murder them from the sides and collect the drops or eggs by walking around them. No need to get in. I always have a block at one end though because if the babies bounce out they run back in to be with their parent - over the block. Sometimes they get stuck though.

Simplyskyler maybe, but on the server I had most trouble doing this on there were no chickens around. I had to walk over 1000 blocks to get a pair and I bred 13 before I lost them ALL. It was not easy ha ha.
