Do you think Minecraft will ever die one day?

When do you think Minecraft will come to an end if ever?

I don't think Minecraft will ever become unpopular because of the large fan base and immense modding capabilities but maybe when a new, similar and much better game comes along then maybe people will get bored of

Yeah, Minecraft won't come to an end for a very long time. Plenty of people would think that the game has run it's course but if that were true, people would stop buying it in general. Minecraft is showing no signs of slowing down as it's starting to go across all platforms.

Personally I think that every game will have its day and will eventually be taken up by a newer and better game. Though, because of the versatility of Minecraft it will be many years before that happens.

Yes and no. The only way I see Minecraft going anywhere is if they come out with the same type of game with tons more options. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say it's going to be the most popular builder for awhile.

I think that it will die eventually, it is just a matter of years, or even 1-2 decades or so. There is no escaping this, but I think it will be very popular for many years to come, so it is very early to ask this question.

I don't think that we will see the end of Minecraft any time soon. The infinite possibilities that the mod system offers mostly guarantees that the game will always be current and relevant whatever trends become popular. In an extreme scenario, a mod might even take over completely and change Minecraft as we know it.

The sandbox game is being sandbox developed. The development is done in java, a sandboxed environment on your PC.

A sandbox in a sandbox... in a sandbox.

Maybe not soon, but I think eventually like most games, Minecraft will die :(

I think there will always be some following though, so maybe it won't die completely

Everything has an end. If it's not because of another big creative game, it would be the point where nobody would use PC's anymore, or when the PC's can't run it anymore.

For me it has been dead for a long time. I played it some years ago, since alpha. It was really funny and the possibilities offered by the game made me fall in love. However, right now, I don't like it anymore. It's not the same yet. I don't enjoy building or undermining anymore, even when I spent a lot of hours doing it...
I want to say, too, that the server game has fallen into the monotony in most of the cases, and it's not funny.

Maybe not the idea behind a sandbox game, but perhaps Minecraft. I think that most video games have their time, and Minecraft may pass its time in a couple of years. But we'll see, maybe I'll be wrong!

I agree with Tobi. The game has a great range of possibilities, but it is too time consuming. For an average player to build something magnificent, it will take a long time. New players may not like that aspect and therefore less people may pick up the game. When that happens, minecraft will only be depending on existing players, and so it may died off once these players get bored and starts playing newer games.

Well, it probably will die out just like every single game ever made will. However, the question is how long it'll last. It probably in my opinion will last for a pretty long time. It's not the type of game that people like for just a little while.

Unlikely. The reason why is that it will always be updated. Even if the staff stop working on the game there will always be new mods to add to your game so in a way it will always be improving and growing however you want it to.

I mean sure, eventually it will die off, but compared it other games it will last for an extremely long time. The community is too huge and the game is just as good even without devs working on it.

With games like Rust and The Forest coming out, of course Minecraft will start becoming less popular over time. But so will every other game when there are other similar and newer choices. I don't see it 'dying' anytime soon, but yeah, it will start fading away with time.

Eventually, but like others have said, it will be many many years. I'm excited to see what else Notch dreams up in the meantime. He is such a creative guy. I'm hoping we see a sort of "updated" Minecraft in the not too distant future.

No way in hell is it dying. Unless jen stops adding new cool stuff and he stops listening to the fan base on what they want added/modified then we can consider it will die. Due to the amount of mods it has it's quite ridiculous and quite expansive for having a personal unique feel. Don't forget about texture packs either, you can literally personalize Minecraft to your liking.

It might lose its immense popularity, but games never really "die". There's always a group of hardcore fans that will continue to play the game regardless.

I see Minecraft as one of those games that will take awhile to truly die off. It's too big and too popular to fall off the wagon completely, at least anytime soon. These sort of games that have large fan bases will keep the game going. As long as they keep having updates and occasionally adding new things to the game to keep it fresh, it will be around for a good long while.
