Do you think people still stereotype console or single player gamers?

Well, for gamers playing MMO games, stereotype has been removed from our minds as you get to encounter people from all walks of life with MMO games and have realized that this genre attracts all types of people.

But such is not the case for console players, particularly those who are into RPG, a genre known for its tedious long hours of playing time. I guess it all started with Dragon Quest VII where the average of most people who completed the game clocked at 150 hours. Since then people on TV often stereotype console gamers as unhealthy, lazy, fat, slobs who do nothing but play video games all day. But console games have evolved over the years and games are no longer just about RPG, there are FPS, sports and casual games available on console for those who are looking to have some fun without spending long hours playing a game. But why do these stereotypes still happen? For console gamers, has anyone thought you were the stereotype?

Their is nothing you can do our any of us can do that it's in human nature to make stereotypes personally I don't care what other people think I play games that I like because I think they are fun not to look cool or anything.

This is also true for PC RPG gamers. 150 hours is not even that long for a game. I clocked Skyrim at about 250 hours and I played through it twice. Other games like Baldur`s Gate 2 are just as long. RPGs are my favorite genre of game, but I`m neither lazy nor particularly fat, and I finished those games in a month or so, leaving me plenty of time to do other things. I think such stereotypes are just silly.

I think all gamers of all genres are still being stereotyped as fat, lazy, doesn't study, and for kids by some. You'd be surprised that despite that gaming is so big now that some people still think it's a bad thing. They still think that games are for kids.

Sadly there are indeed huge numbers of people who consider gaming a children`s pastime and not something adults should do. If you are a gamer, you are considered childish and imature by default

It is upsetting to see gamers stereotyped at all, and I think it is, unfortunately, just the way things are now. Gamers tend to be really smart, different, and intellectual people - making them an easy target for those who love to stereotype.

Exactly what everyone has said so far. There are a myriad of people from all walks of life that play games. No one would think someone who owns and operates a giant chemical plant in California would spend any time paying World of Warcraft and ARMA III, yet I know exactly the person who does, who is married, has two kids and a fantastic life. I also know people who are full time dads and moms, who were university educated and responsible who play games.

Indeed, there are some that portray a common social media induced stereotype, but I feel that those are far and few and people have to stop for a moment, step back and stop with the harassment.

Stereo types are based on opinion for the most part. Ive seen gamers come in all packages. Its hard to put us all in a box

I think people do that. Like same people who can afford iphone make fun of the non iphone users. same with console users doing that to PC users and vice versa. Its not going to change. that's how the life is in most of the parts.
