Do you think we will be able to name the dog? Will there be any other customizations for him?

Well I think that naming the dog is a no brainer, but I am not entirely sure about how look the dog. It would be cool to have a dog that fits your "theme", but we will have to wait to see!

 

You'll probably be able to name him/her, but I doubt there's going to be a ton of customization. I don't really see the point to that anyways.

 

If Bethesda were to add different collars you can buy and find for the dog I feel it wouldn't quite fit in smoothly for the Fallout style.

 

I'm pretty sure naming the dog was confirmed, because it'd make no sense for Dogmeat to be alive in Boston at that time. They just named him Dogmeat for nostalgia purposes. Beyond naming, I'd love to have small things like adding storage space or lasers to it. Great ideas both, right? Gotta have fun, practical companions.

 

Definitely going to be able to name him, Imagine if you could change his species or color? That would be nuts to see, having a pink husky following you around the wasteland

 

I think that naming the Dog will be a thing, as for changing things like fur colour? I hope so but it's a possibility that it won't be an option. I would definitely like to customize a dog in game and have it more personalized, it adds more value to the dog in terms of you not wanting him to die.

 

The idea with different-colored collars wouldn't actually be bad, I would love some level of detail even for the dogs. We will surely be able to name it.

 

I'm not sure if we will be able to name the dog. Bethesda has never really allowed the player to customize followers in past games, including changing the names (Dogmeat in Fallout 3 and the original) of animal/robot followers. It could be different this time around though, especially since they recorded all the names for the main character, it would be pretty cool if they did the same thing for the dog. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I won't be disappointed or surprised if it doesn't happen.

 

I think you can pick a variety of pets ( I don't really remember what was said), but i definately think you will be able to name it. Bethesda is obsessed with detail.

 

Will the character be able to call the dog by actually saying its name ingame? Just like the NPCs do with your character. That would be cool.

 

I would LOVE if I was able to pick the dogs name! I dunno if you'll be able to change the dog breed from the German Shepard shown in the trailers, but it would make a neat unlockable bonus. It would also be neat if you could have other animal companions, though that might be a thing for mods to try their hand at more so then devs.

 

I think you'll be able to choose its name, I see no reason they wouldn't let you. I don't know how much more you could customize a dog besides that though.

 

It would be cool to give the dog a custom name, though I might be tempted to call him Dogmeat just for nostalgia's sake. What would be even more cooler is if they gave you the ability to tame one of the creatures you encounter in the game and have them as a pet. Nothing would be more badass than charging into a raider camp with a pet Deathclaw or Rad scorpion at your side.

 

Hey, we're talking the aftermath of a global nuclear war. Who's to say what colours a dog's coat could turn? I mean, sure, much of the radiation would have wasted away by then, but still...

As for the collars thing, though 'glamour' collars aren't exactly fitting with the overall aesthetic, it'd be neat to see a collar that has the name you've chosen for the dog printed on it. Maybe scratched on or something. Don't see why that couldn't be done.

 

It would add a whole new layer of "this is MY pet" if you could customize him. I hope Bethesda doesn't pass this opportunity. Getting people attached to their pet through some slight customization would be awesome.

It doesn't need to be the sims, but a way to change the fur beyond presets would be really good. If he is going to be my best friend, I hope I can at least make him look a little different, maybe even match colors with my character.

 

That'd be a neat feature to name the dog. It'd make it a more realistic companion. But I doubt that'll be done for the game.

 

Guys, how would you call your dog if there was a choice? First of all, would you change the name if you could? Dogmeat is like a staple at this point, so I'd understand if there was someone who keeps it like that.

I'd like to call it Missile though, because of another game I really like called Ghost Trick where there's this awesome dog called Missile who is in my opinion the best dog in videogames.
