Do you think we'll get any references to the previous games?

Maybe we'll see some dialogues referencing the old games, but I don't think we'll see mentions in terms of gameplay. Maybe they'll surprise us, who knows.

 

Wasn't it confirmed that there will be a character in FO4 who is a grown up version of a kid you met in FO3? Can't find the source, but I swear I've heard it.

 

That honestly sounds super familiar. Maybe it's just an online rumor that was started?

 

That's really what I was thinking too. I doubt they would even want to reference the old game play in the first place, especially if they want to be innovative.

 

Well, apparently, the timeline is just a few years after Fallout 3, so I believe there will be. Dr. Li went to the Commonwealth, Three Dog's voice actor is back, and there were a couple of other references I remember reading about.

In order to do good universe building, and keep the lore continuous I am sure there will be references. Maybe Project Purity will have some affect up North?

 

I did not even really think about the effects Project Purity could have up north. Huh.

 

Oh man, I'm sure this thing will be packed with cool little nods, not just to past Bethesda games, but to other outside sources as well. You know, Fallout 3 was a really eye opening experience for me. It was so big and all encompassing. I never got to play New Vegas, but now I wish I had. Oblivion was a great game and all, but Fallout 3 really proved to me Bethesda was committing to making epic cross-platform experiences no one else in the world is capable of making.

 

I wouldn't totally dismiss it though. Innovation isn't everything and a couple of little references wouldn't hurt the game too much, especially if they'll do it in a quirky way.

 

This comment doesn't even make sense. Fallout 4's gameplay will be quite similar to the past Fallout games, so obviously they're going to "reference" those things. And bringing some of the lore from previous games into Fallout 4 is a given that doesn't hamper innovation or the new game in any way whatsoever.

 

Oh of course we will get some things, a mention of factions, three dawg or some other thing for sure.

 

If it were someone other than Three Dog I might be a little skeptical, since voice actors get reused for different, unrelated parts in game franchises all the time. His voice would be a little tougher to mask. News.

But yeah, I'm sure there will plenty of references. Distant from Boston or not, allusions have a way of travelling in video games.

 

3 dog is not coming back I saw today. The voice actor had apparently only been told it was a possibility. I do not care much though, I'd rather they come up with something original. Bethesda could make a pretty funny character from the Boston area easily. I don't like that accent though...

 

I seriously hope so! I'd love to see some funny reference to Fallout 3 or New Vegas, but I'd also love to find references to other stuff like movies, popular videos and stuff like that. New Vegas had a lot of easter eggs and references to older movies and TV series, but I'm a 90s kid and I didn't watch most of them, so I didn't get most of them.

 

It be pretty cool to see little nods to FO3 in FO4. It's in a different region though, so I dunno if the nods could be put into the game play or environment though.

 

I think there will be some references: many Fallout players have only played the third game, so it's not impossible that they're going to make some tributes to the game that sold the most in the entire franchise. Somehow I don't think we'll see actual characters from previous games, but maybe a nod about some of them. Maybe some unique item that reminds you of them or some stories, but I'm not seeing them straight up coming back.

 

I`m sure Bethesda will put in some references to characters from previous games, through easter eggs and slight touches, maybe even random encounters. While there is a slim chance to meet the Courier from NV, it could be possible to meet the main character from F3 maybe.

 

I'm sure they will! It might not be obvious, but I'd be very surprised to not see any Easter eggs or anything like that. They've created such an expansive/interesting world, it would be a such a shame to not reference previous Fallout games. It's still the same world, just a different location.

 

This is Bethesda we're talking about here. They love dropping references left and right in their own games, so I wouldn't be surprised if they not only dropped some from previous Fallout games, but also snuck a few references for Skyrim as well.

 

I'm sure we'll get at least a little bit of reference to previous games. At least to 3 I'm guessing.
