Does anybody else find the Minecraft rail system cumbersome and hard to use?

I've always had a problem with it. It just always seems so awkward and if you accidentally click once you're booted out of your own minecart. And don't even get me started on trying to use redstone with it to make powered railways. Sometimes your system that worked properly 1000 times before will just decide to give up and not work halfway through.

Am I the only one who is cursed in this way?

Yeah, sometimes I'll get knocked out of my cart for a random reason, but that's usually because I built it too close to an animal crossing. :) It's pretty simple to build and operate, it's just so expensive I don't use them often.

I kind of like the quirks and glitches that come with the minecraft railway system. I actually kind of miss when people had to make carts speed up by making a separate track alongside your main track.

I never had many problems building railway systems in minecraft, to be honest. I once build a big minecart hub for my server and it worked like a charm! The only problem was the minecart dispenser that got stuck from time to time. I removed it from the build and installed a simple chest. Much better.

I do but I've seen amazing things done with it by people that know what they're doing.

hmm seems handy but if they are already implementing pistons we already have a good stop start system and I do imagine these booster rails will be handy but I would be willing to bet that that the boosters we have now will be the fastest method and possibly the most efficient over long distances.

I beg to differ. Having a fast horse is much faster than a minecart, not to mention less cumbersome. You don't even need to place tracks! You saddle the horse and off you go!

I have had a Minecraft break at random, I am no sure if it was a glitch or not. Other than that I have also had them get stuck in walls. I just like the fact that mobs can ride them too, so funny to see a creeper rolling on the tracks with that face. "The heck..."

Maybe it's a bit cumbersome, but I still like it. It does need to be a straightened out, because it being unreliable defeats the whole purpose.

OMG YES!! It's such a pain in the backside....but it's so cool and fun! We used to have a huge rail system on my server but it was too laggy and to be honest everyone got really tired of it fast. Mobs would spawn on it. You'd be sent backwards. You'd go into a new area and a minecart would be sitting on the tracks or flying at you and bounce you back. In the end it was actually quicker walking...and we actually did test that.

I think the issue is unloaded chunks...the game has to load everything as you go and because they aren't loaded as it is the carts don't keep going. There's no way to "send back" over a long distance.

Good for smaller projects but not so much for mass transit ha ha.

Yes I agree on the buggy part. If they can fix the bugs I think the railway is pretty useful. At least it helps to cut down time on transport when it works properly.

I haven't really worked to much with it, but I can see how sometimes it could be a complete pain. I don't like working with anything like that because of that reason, I don't really have the patience for it.

It's actually one of the things I like most about Minecraft. It involves planning, building and the use of redstone / logic and it's still useful so you don't waste time running around all the time between different areas, like when you play with some friends everyone has kind of his/her own area to build and sometimes they can be pretty far away from each other. I just hate getting stuck on a random sheep or cow on the tracks :D.

Not really. Maybe because the first thing I did on Minecraft was build a railway system with my friends. They taught me how so I got the hang of it quite quickly. It's one of my favorite things in the game.

I haven't had problems with the rail system, but it could definitely use some improvements. Even minor tweaks would make it so much more worthwhile and easy to use. I don't think we'll see any major changes anytime soon, though.

I had the same issues and said forget it I will walk, jump, or ride a horse. A friend has an elaborate track which looks great, but the upkeep keeps him busier than I would like. So that's okay I'll use me feets.

I'm pretty neutral about it. I never really use mine carts but I think they are balanced. It should be the player's responsiblity and I don't really know how they can accidently click. The redstone being involved with mine carts makes the game more interesting and I think that the rail system is fine.

I feel stuff like that is part of its charm. Often games will have little quirks that you will remember for far longer than sometimes the game itself. It is pretty cumbersome but not more so than many other games I've played in the past. I would say its just the right amount of cumbersome without spoiling the game.

You raised a good point with the quirks. Does anyone remember the good old days, when there was the booster minecart glitch? There were no powered rails back then, of course, and the minecarts were really slow. But if you managed to get two in the same spot, they would start moving quicker and quicker. If you put them on a circular track of sorts, you could boost your own minecart, allowing you to travel faster and faster.

Oh the good old quirks. :)
