Does the character's race affect the play?

There are two main factions in "World of Warcraft" -- the Hordeand the Alliance
    • Alliance: Humans, dwarves, gnomes, night elves, dranei
    • Horde: Orcs, trolls, tauren, undead, blood elves
Characters affects the classes you play. Warriors, Paladins, Druids, Shamans, Mages, Warlocks, Hunters, Rogues, Priests, death knights are the classes in the game.

This sums it up. To add a little more: Different classes have different abilities and these abilities will affect how you go about completing quests and taking on enemies in the game.

Since no one has answered your topic question I will. Each race in WoW has a special ability called a racial, this is basically an ability passive or not which gives you an advantage. For example Tauren have 5+% health and increased herblore while Dwarves have a special ability called "Stoneform" and can find treasure on the minimap. Not ground-breaking but if you're trying to play at the very top level worth considering and taking into account.

The effect that race has on a class is minimal, but I believe there are some changes in the works. When you create a new character browse through the race attributes to get a feel for what might work best for you.

Note: Short races tend to get lost in the tall grasses. :p

    Exactly.

And Lostvalley mentioned getting lost in tall grasses.... This used to be even more significant! Once upon a time, gnomes were short enough that if they tried walking through small puddles, they would actually start 'swimming' or rather, would have the swim/breath meter. They could die within a very short amount of time if they didn't notice they were in a puddle. It means they would get dismounted when running through places like Zangarmarsh where there's lots of water back before they made it so you could swim while mounted. Gnomes HATED Zangarmarsh before they got flight.

Absolutely! Each class has a race that suits makes the class just a bit better than other races being the same class.

An example of this is undead MW monk. It's basically a requirement to be undead to be a 2k+ MW because you really need that extra fear trinket that WotFK gives you. Another is Horde Shammies are Orc because of how important the reduced stun DR is.

A quick look on the arena ladders should give a great idea which are the best races to play for each class.

I kind of think they are a little minimal myself as well. I mean I have a warlock within the lovely human spirit but when you are in any character you are going to have that spirit no matter what when you are so frustrated you start button mashing, right?

I personally prefer roleplaying servers, where as you can play as Argathor, the almighty paladin who has just returned from a quest. You gather at the inn with your friends and share some golden brew ale while telling stories.

So ofcourse race and class affects your gameplay. :)

Race mostly affects the game only on a minimal scale since the racial passive and active abilities are just small buff ups. (with few exceptions, such as human racial trinket removing movement impairing effects, blood elf short silence, etc.). If you are choosing a race, i suggest simply find the one you appeal the most in terms of looks, lore or anything else you like.

If you play in an RP server you will feel the impact of your initial race choice. If you play in normal servers you might even feel that you could go with whatever race/faction and still play the same game. Although those racial passives are quite impactful in pvp arenas.

Yes, for example human is considered to be the best at PVP because they have a "free trinket".

Most mmo's have race based stats in addition to the class stats. Some start with more health, some with a bigger mana pool and so on.

Choose your pick, because every race and class type, affects one's characteristic traits, abilities, and possibilities to take or complete a mission, loot around, or simply doodle about aimlessly.

If you are one to bash in skulls and kick butt, go for the paladins, warriors, and any class types of that ilk; I personally chose most of my characters to be skull crushers, because I suck at doing spell combos and all that other non-manly stuff, ahem.

If you wish to be a nancy boy, and kill and fight from afar with shining lights and sparkle stuff, go for the shamans, conjurers, magicians, etc.; a class I totally avoided.

If thou desire to be sneaky or sling objects from afar or mid-range, be one of them hunters, rogues, and characters that have trouble lifting a manly weapon, like a double-edge axe!

Then there are the weird types, who talk with or become animals [yeah, beastmaster wannabes], and those who are humanoid, but look ugly and not really attractive at all, but can swing a sword, shoot a bow, and be an all well-rounded schmucks, who get in my way of bashing skulls in!

All in all, WOW has a lot of characters from separate races, one can choose and play with; however, if you're not a macho-bone breaking type, GET OUT OF MY WAY!

Well, each one class/spec has an optimal race, but to me,the difference between the optimal, and non optimal race is so small, it can be neglected without issue. For example, balance druids are best as trolls, due to their racial being a mini lust. I perfer tauren for the war stomp stun, giving me that second I need, to go cat form and dash away from the allie trying to kill me

There are too many classes in World of Warcraft to mention here. I think a lot of people have already explained it. And no, the character and race wont affect your gameplay much.

I'm not sure to what extent the game's races affect the actual game play but it is affected somewhat by each race via something called a racial. Also, in the trial, I've noticed that some races start in different areas. For instance the undead start in a graveyard while the pandas obviously don't.

most definitely, not only does your race dictate the traits, the factions and your warrior class, some races have bonus damages over others, I'll leave it up to you through game explorations to discover which characters have damage advantages over which. have fun WoWing

Race does affect gameplay. When you're in competitive PvP or high end raiding, every little bit counts. For example, if you were a Tauren, your race gives you the ability to stomp the ground and daze enemies for a short period of time. This racial trait makes your tanking more efficient than if you were to play as a different race because of that extra 'Stun.' Trolls have a good racial that increases their haste by 15% for 10 seconds which is good for spellcasters since haste allows faster casting of spells.
