Does the ES series traditionally being stand-alone games affect our opinion about the new sub fees?

Much has been said already about the sub fees planned for the new ESO and I'm just wondering if we're just perceiving it negatively because the series started with stand-alone games. Logically, most people would expect that you just buy the ESO core game and then get free subscription all throughout, similar to the Guild Wars model. However, since Bethesda chose to impose otherwise, it ran counter to everyone's expectations. This in turn caused massive disappointment.

    What do you think?

I honestly don't know. Personally I'm not too bothered by it. It's going to be a massive game and maybe sub fees are needed to make it all work out. I know people are annoyed by it, but I'm not to hurt by it to be honest. It's true that this is the first ES with a sub fee, but I have faith they will release a truly epic game.
