How useful do you think the dog will really be? I think in the beginning it will be somewhat useful, but get ignored a bit later in the game.

I want to leave the dog behind the moment I start playing. Let's put it that way.

I think that there will definitely be better followers than him as he is the first one you will get right away, but I think he will be a permanent one.

He looks pretty important to the story, so I think he will be with you even if you have another follower, having 2 followers could be interesting.

I hope that he has useful applications. Bethesda doesn't have a really good track record with follower AI. Maybe the dog will be different.

I think the dog will actually be somewhat important, based on some of the things Bethesda has said. I doubt it'll be like in an MMO where your dog or cat or whatever just ind of tags along as a friendly little affectation, not actually doing anything or contributing in any way to your success in the game, lol. Bethesda's trying to do something really smart with the dog, I think. Other games have tried it to varying degrees of success, but capitalizing on people's natural fondness for four-legged friends, it doesn't surprise me it's a game dynamic that keeps getting used.

I think that the dog would be awesome. It will be super entertaining to play with and I think he will be more useful than all of the other companions anyways.

I think that the dog will be completely different. I just have a hunch.

I just hope that if I do have to use the dog, that I can give him armor or something to keep him alive. Either that or just back the dog unkillable like the kids in FO3 and just get knocked out when he loses all health.

In the first games the dog was more of a hindrance than help. It really depends how they code his behavior in F4. I want to be able to get the dog out of harms way whenever possible, last thing I need is the dog dying near the end of a long and hard fight, and having to reload a save to get him back.

If the dog is going to charge a pack of super mutants with miniguns, while I try to take them out with a sniper riffle from a distance.. then thanks, but I will leave him behind.

I mean, they could honestly utilize the dog in a bunch of different ways and that would make the gameplay more enjoyable. But who knows?

I know that, as stated in this topic, the AI needs to be right in order for this to be a legit feature.

Of course the A.I needs to be at its best but I don't think that's too hard to take care of. I think the Dog will be a niche thing more than anything, especially after the middle of the story.

Yeah, I'm betting on that too. I always like using animals in games like these, but they seldom last long beyond the initial stages of a game. Take the Mabari in the first Dragon Age as an example - he was a great companion for the first little while, but he quickly falls behind the rest of the party in terms of overall usefulness.

As far as Fallout goes, the dog's role will probably be dictated by how much he can offer to expanding the plot. Chances are good he won't be capable of doing too much.

When Call of Duty adds a dog, people hate it. When Fallout 4 adds a dog, people are into the idea. I'm amused. :3

Dog is cool and nice, but yeah they had better have some better companions out there, Fawkes and Boone were some of the best parts of the previous games.
