To do everything that there is to do in a solo game it will take around 200 hours. The main story line will take 20 to 40. This sounds like we will have a lot of stuff to do. I don't like how the main story line however is so short. I would love to have a huge epic story line, but with so much other stuff to do I can't complain to much about it.
I will believe it when I see it, they said Origins was around 100 hours and I beat the game in 14hrs. So if they are saying the game is 20 to 40 hours what they mean its its more like 10 to 20 hours if that. You watch at all the complaints on day one, people will be raging about how short the game is. Greg
Personally, the main story line being short doesn't bother me all to much. I really enjoy the game and will continue playing until completion. The graphics are absolutely fantastic, as well as the voice acting. This game reminds me a bit of Skyrim in a good way. I love the open landscape, and how the main story line doesn't have to be the first you do. I am not displeased by anything in this game.
Beating the game in 14 hours doesn't mean the game doesn't contain 100 hours of playable content. In fact, it's possible to beat Kingdoms of Amalur in about 15 hours, but that means the player is skipping a lot of extra content and focus primarily on the main campaign. Also the length of time is relative to the player. Many people have managed to get 40-45 hours out of DA:O. Many people got through it in about 20-25. The shortness of the main story line really does bother me, I think they should remove some side quests and make the story line longer. A good story line that starts slow and keeps working itself up to a epic end is way better than a story line that starts with a bang, works up...and done. I prefer a good, long story line.
They always say such things for RPGs, and they always woo players to buy them based on this, but truth is not many people actually get to the hour mark advertised, finishing the main story in about 15-20 hours and then getting bored of it and only playing it again in a few years, when a replay is due. I am ashamed that I am one of those people. I always want to complete the main story in games first, with the promise that I will do the side quests later, but after the main quest is done, the games feel lackluster, so that even if you have 80 hours of stuff left to do, you feel like you've got nothing at all.
Long gone are the days when games actually take 100 to 200 hours. The best RPGs and similar games always tend to be on the longer and grander side. I've been waiting a long time for an exceptionally long game that produces an epic story worth investing that much time in.
