Dragon Age Origins Vs. Dragon Age 2

When I first played Origins a while back I was really happy. It's a really remarkable game and was really well received by fans and critics alike. But, when the sequel to it came out not too long ago, I was a bit disappointed. Dragon Age 2 wasn't what I expected and It seemed fans and critics felt the same. For me, it felt way too easy compared to Origins.

What would you all have to say about it?

Origins takes the cake for me. Dragon Age 2 was fun, but it wasn't what I expected. They didn't fix everything and they over simplified some aspects of the game. Origins worked because it was just great fun. Dragon Age 2 didn't update it enough to truly distance itself as a new game. That's how I feel anyways.

I'm afraid that I'll have to echo a lot of what's been said here: Origins was a fantastic game. I felt like Dragon Age 2 didn't really follow in the vein that I was expecting. Some of it was fun; the storyteller as a concept was interesting, but the execution of it was a bit confusing at times.

I was a bit upset that some bugs still existed, and once I got stuck in an unfortunate fight loop as the result of a cutscene, and that was hard to take because I had to go back to an earlier save file and replay about five hours of the game. It was fun, but it wasn't "replay the last five hours that you JUST DID" fun.

I think both Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2 are fun. Both have a great storyline and gameplay. I just hate the bugs that have not been fixed.

I'm currently replaying the series in order to have a save ready for the third game, so my opinion is super fresh :)

Dragon Age 2 is a fun game, it's a very good RPG whose only problem was not stacking up to its predecessor.
This is where Origins comes in, it's absolutely amazing, one of the best games ever made, not even just RPG's.
By far one of the best RPG's of all time, up there with Baldur's Gate II and Fallout 2 for me.
Can't wait for the new one next year :)

I loved Dragon Age: Origins. The story was great (my favorite was the female noble). I finished the game in 2-3 days because I couldn't put it down.

I thought it was great that they allowed you to import your Origins game so whatever you did in the first game affected the world in Dragon Age 2. I don't think it had the same magic as the first one, but it was okay.

I'm hoping Inquisition will be as good as the first one.

Is there any difference between male and female human noble stories?
I know the story is completely different if you pick elf but I've never made a human female.

    *Spoiler alert
There are some differences, due to the characters you are able to romance.

    [Spoiler Alert]

Only a female noble is able to marry Alistair and rule Ferelden alongside him as queen, and he will mourn your death as his lover, if you should die.
Only males are able to partake in the "ritual" with Morrigan.

A female elf is the kidnapped bride but the male elf has to rescue his bride.

I'm sure there are a few other examples I can't remember right now.

I played both for the first time within the past year. I loved Origins and I definitely agree it's the better game. My expectations were pretty low for Dragon Age 2 because I had heard such bad things about it. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I really think it's a great game in it's own right- just not as awesome as Origins.

Origins was awesome. It's at the moment the best RPG I've played yet. DA2, however, was kind of... bland. I doN't know, really, something just didn't click with it, so to say. It just didn't have that overall dramatic feeling, I guess. You just got a new boss every chapter or so.

Dragon age origins was a totally fun game your choices made a huge impact on the game the second one was a huge let down you could tell the game was rushed, but I don’t blame Bioware I blame EA.

Sadly EA has this record of rushing developers to ship unfinished games and then patch it later (if they're not too busy with the DLC's).
Do you think they will make the same mistake with Dragon Age 3? At least they are taking a lot longer to get it out, it was only about a year between 1 and 2...

Dragon age origins takes the cake when compared with Dragon age 2. The reason for saying this is that in Dragon age origins they had a turn based system, the graphics were excellent and the story line was just out of this world. Dragon age 2 wasn't even on the map to be called an enjoyable game. It was too fast paced to even allow me to strategize (using all team members) during battle. Secondly, I couldn't enjoy all the animation associated with battle selections and final blows. Thirdly, the story line was a complete mess.

We can only hope not I really hope EA gives Bioware enough time to work game because the 2nd one was just garbage.

    Wait, DA1 wasn't turn based.
Sure, you could make liberal use of the pause function, but you could also do that in 2, right?

It wasn't and yes, you could pause in DA2 too. I could play the battles with pause just fine, not like Origins because the fights are more fast in DA2, but still. I think the hate that DA2 gets is a bit over the top, it was a good game if you don't compare it to Origins, and if you do, still a good game.

Lets be honest and admit that the story of Origins is not that original, you play an underdog hero that has to save the world and a fatal destiny awaits for they (unless...). And it only adds to the feeling of a good story the fact that you can chose what race/social/class you play, in DA2 you can't but the story seems better to me, underdog hero needs to get on them feet, shit happens and everything goes out of control.
The companions for Origins and DA2 are nothing new, almost the same, Bioware tends to repeat the same combination of characters in their games; funny and shy guy, cold girl/guy with a heart inside, naive girl, rude guy, etc...
The gameplay is dumbed down in DA2 but is still enjoyable.

I like Origins better since is longer than DA2, but I don't think that either of them is a master piece. And don't get me wrong, DA is one of my favorite games, I've played it at least 5 times completely (Awakening and all), but its because I like clichés.

What are you expecting from Dragon Age 3?
What changes would you like them to implement, besides stop dumbing it down like the second one? :)

Gameplay wise, one thing I would really want them to implement is co-op, I know it won't happen, but it would be so cool to play with a friend through the game.

On a more realist view, one of the thing that always has bugged me about DA is that crafting is almost useless, you wouldn't upgrade Herbalism or Poison-making (and Runecrafting on Awakening) because is a waste of points, so you are bound to use the spare point of your companions on these, and even then there are not enough points to make it worthwhile. In DA2 you only collect recipes and ingredients and then you handle them to an NPC for them craft, the bad thing is that you obviously you can't craft everywhere. Maybe they could come with an in-between solution to this.

As for the combat mechanics, they already showed that it would be very similar to DA2, a shame really, I dare to say it even looks more like a hack-and-slash than anything else. They missed out that one of the more interesting things of DA was the strategic part of the battles and not the 'look at me, I'm so powerfull!'.

Story wise, I was expecting the return of the previous heros (Warden Commander and Hawke) but it seems is a whole new hero (the Inquisitor) that you play as. I don't see why Hawke would be of any relevance in the story line if this is true, I mean, afterall the whole mage war (the now Inquisition perhaps?) was Anders doing not Hawke.

I know I'm missing things, and for what they have showed so far, I'm not impressed.

I loved Origins but DA2 was OK.

Origins had a way better story to start off. You got a lot of great content as well like the various classes origin stories.

Plus in origins you got way more places to explore. In DA2 I quickly became bored with the single city you spend the entire game in.

As far as the combat systems, I do prefer action RPGs so I liked that part of DA2 better. Origins was pretty complex but the style wasn't really my cup of tea.

Origins is still one of my favorites. It had a great plot, awesome music, interesting choices and side characters. I also like the combat system more than DA2.
DA2 felt more bland and some of the choices were rather stupid so I don't like the game too much.
