At this current time there is no information on a beta or alpha, however to give some hope...the last big THQ game that had multiplayer was tested by Combat Testing. That does not mean however that THQ will use them, I'm just saying that previous THQ games have been tested...

Chances are the multiplayer will bomb completely, the current market is over-saturated with shooters as it is. Look at Bioshock 2 for example. Metro isn't as mainstream as Battlefield or Call of Duty: Modern Rehash Warfare 17, and I'd prefer it stay like that.

MW3 and BF3 are hardly great multi player games, they have loads of problems and the reason people still play them is because of the name and the lobbies are full.

What Metro should not do is try and replicate those shooters which have a long history and fan base. If they produce something unique, enjoyable with lots of customisation and yet competitive they'll be onto a winner.

Even a simple add on like the zombie mode in COD proved to be a massive hit which took a different spin on your average zombie shooters. There is definitely room for a multiplayer addition. Our only problem is we don't know what 4A are planning. More recent arcade games like Gotham City Imposters has already been well received and that is a shooter too.

As for a beta, I am hoping that it will be part of the single player campaign. But then nothing has been revealed by THQ over the past couple of months.

Apply the pressure via twitter people. :D

I would surely welcome the multiplayer if it were as raw and cruel as the campaign. It should definitely be stealth based as well, hunting your prey, etc. If there is a map in the dark I expect players to have to charge up their nightvision goggles systematically, just like the campaign. I want to see a multiplayer that is just as difficult as the campaign.

Another good example of a good multiplayer game that flopped was Alien vs. Predator. There was this game mode where one player was the predator, and the other players were marines. The predator hunted the marines methodically, and the player that killed the predator became the predator the next round. Sadly, it took forever to find a lobby.

It would be nice if they take a completely different approach to multiplayer than other popular games, as people above have said. A plain shooter-multiplayer just wouldn't sell at all.

Even in a world where shooters are saturated there can still be surprises which take a unique approach.

Nazi zombies is a prime example as I mentioned before and the Gears of War Horde and Beast modes are another.

In Bioshock capture the sister was okay but it did not really captivate me as it was a glorified rip of Capture the Flag which we know from Call of Duty.

It would be way more awsome if they somehow made their own game mode, diffrent from CTF or TDM like matches.
Idk what it would be, but maybe some kind of survival. I KNOW!
Co-op survival; It's like campaign but some people play as mutants. Need to make more details than this, and I think it would be great! :D

Well you must be one of the FEW people who enjoy playing BF3. Look at the hardcore community on the US, UK EA forums, look at battlelog forums and the majority of people complain about the game. This is across ALL Platforms.

BF3 is shit -simple as. Maybe when they patch it again and again and a year later it will be the finished product.

Don't hate on each other for liking and disliking certain games. Everyone has an opinion of their own, and they're entitled to it.

As for the idea of a left for dead styled game mode where people get to play as mutants and stop other (human) players from accomplishing objectives could be fun, if it were done right. I'm not sure if it completely fits the realm of Metro, but it could be tweaked to fit the subject matter.

For example, a mission could go like this: A group of Stalkers or Bandits is trying to get from Riga to Dry, and they are taking to the surface to get there. Perhaps the group has to agree on who gets which weapons/equipment, as I believe even in multiplayer ammuntion/weapons/equipment should be scarce. The other team (mutants) gets to choose which type of mutant they want to play as. This would urge the group of humans to alter their strategy based on what kind of mutant threat they face. Like if the entire mutant team decides to be Demons, the humans begin to stick to alleyways and inside buildings to discreetly get past them. Or if the entire mutant team decides to be nosalises/howlers, one could scout ahead and and hwol when they see stragglers straying away from the team, notifying the rest of the mutants.

Wow, you put that idea up better than I could o_O

well yea, but I always though that it would be more campaign-ish and thereby I mean, that you just don't one mission thats it. More like you do one, and get to the next one. But here's the problem; If you just keep hindering the people from completing the mission, will it just start over again?
My solution for this would be that if all the- Lets call the none-mutants "Stalkers"- Stalkers die, then you move into beign new stalkers on a diffrent mission but to the same station. or something like that.

YES! The Left 4 Dead multiplayer was good, but Metro LL, with perfected controls, use of night-vision (for the mutants), and the ability to run along walls or use little tunnels (kinda like in L4D), yes it would be awesome! It will be very interesting to see what they come up with.

In the first chapter of the book ''SPOILER ALERT'' artyoms friend tells him a story of scout's that kept disapering from the station without a sound and eventualy after losing a whole battalion blew up the tunnel. there could possibly be a M P mode were as a scout u have to get to the other side and plant a bomb to block the tunnel with out "disapering" (dying) and the mutants ethier stop them from planting or over run the station.

    just a thought nothing more

So basically Left 4 Dead 2's multiplayer then? lol :p

Horde mode would be cool, but playing as mutants has AvP's (2010) fails all over it.

Well theres plenty of non standard modes that could really make the multiplayer stand out, going up to the surface and collecting supplies for instance could be a co-op mode were your just trying to get the supplies and get back facing mutants or even a vs mode where your competing for the supplies and fending off mutants leading to the occasional truce to deal with the more dangerous enemies. I think we'll also see the standards return but twisted to fit within the metro ie like the single player slowly hunting down your enemies no run and gun.
