East or West?

    What's your preference with MMOs--Eastern-based companies, or Western? I've noticed a difference in style between the two. FFXI, for instance, is a totally different animal from WoW. They have plenty in common, but the style is what sets them apart.

    Personally, I like a mix. It's nice to be able to switch it up occasionally.

    Personally, I prefer games from Western companies because they seem to be more simple while the Eastern ones are more complicated. But that's just my opinion. haha

    A mix is a good way to lean but sometimes I lean a bit more to the west if I am being honest. I guess getting used to that growing up it will always be "first hand" to me, so I still struggle sometimes with games like FFXI and the like.

    I have to say that if I had my choice I prefer the Eastern based MMOs. Same goes for the single player games; I just tend to like the graphics style better and the gameplay is different for sure. Just my preference, but I actually never thought about it before! ;)

    The different game play is what I'm all about. Each game is different and has its own set of mechanics, but I've noticed that Eastern MMOs are usually more involved in terms of mechanics. Western MMOs kind of let you do your own thing and are less demanding. Sometimes I want the game to really challenge me, sometimes I just want to hang out.

    I don't I think both regions have their merits, I think in just raw story telling and fanciful plot lines, the Japanese has it down to a science, but American Companies have the overal best gameplay experience out there; then you have to factor in the Russians, who are masters of game mechanics and graphics engineering, but that the best style is mixed.

    I think that's why I tend to like the Eastern tech better, I'm all about storyline and graphics (and character hair). I personally don't think that American games have the 'best' gameplay out there (on the average), but that's just my experience and preferences...

    I prefer western ones because I find that they are more unique. Where as eastern ones tend to be the same game with different skins. Eastern ones are normally prettier and western ones are normally least creative, but mechanically, western ones seem more fun and has lasting value for me.

    I prefer Western made games actually. I never really liked games from the East, by that I mean Japanese RPG's. I don't know why really but there's just this preference I look for and somehow Japanese RPG's and other games just doesn't cut it in.

    I don't really care much about it as long as the game is good. But I do prefer having to play Western games but for RPG's I think the East has some more to offer.

    East has a lot to offer but at the same time the amount of grinding required to enjoy the game is a bit too much. I honestly don't have the time to constantly grind for one thing or another. Western I gravitate to more because it's more in tune with my lifestyle and more friendly towards people who have busier schedules.

    I wouldn't mind a mix of the two.

    The only reason why I prefer the Eastern MMORPG's more, however, are because I'm accustomed to the controls. Every Eastern one I've played, some controls, so I don't have to worry about learning too many new keys.

    The western one I played, however, was vastly different and confusing for it's controls. I don't think I was able to change the configution either.

    If I can find a nice blend between the two, with a little bit great graphics and story, I'm for it.
