The Elder Scrolls Online will now carry a subscription fee. Historically, people thought that the subscription model for online games was outdated, but with this announcement, The Elder Scrolls will attempt to utilize the subscription model to fuel a game that the players will want to play, and will offer hundreds of hours of gaming time.

This model will allow players to go where they want, and be who they want, and do what they want. With in-game purchases, it just hinders the overall game experience.

I think this is great! Let me tell you why. In my experience, I usually pay for in-game purchases to advance my position within the game anyway. These small charges usually add up quickly and would usually be more than what a monthly subscription charge would be anyway. This is good news.

What do you think about the new subscription model? Do you think it is the right payment model for them to establish? Why or why not?

Not surprising for ESO to be subscription based. I just hope they don't have an in-game cash system that gives other players an advantage, as well as spending more on the game. I just want to pay a monthly fee, and play with a few friends. I think subscription based is the right way to go. It doesn't encourage hackers which can just come into the game and start spawning in items, and it doesn't cost as much. The set price for the monthly subscription was around $15 which is easily payable.

Well first things first, the game had better be good or it will be dead within a few months. Second, I'm still more inclined to go via the microtransaction route where players with no patience can buy things that others who want to play the full game can get for free (or reduced).
