    Entropia Universe, MindArk
If you have real life money to put into it, you can cash out real money. Game is called Project Entropia, Entropia Universe. Publisher is MindArk. They're an overseas company. To day, they've done hundreds if not billions in real world transactions and they allow backwards payouts. It's really how much you can invest is what you'll get out in the long run. It's an MMORPG that plays either first or third person, allowing mousewheel for angle and height. It's a very Sci-fi oriented game, and interplanetary travel is very lengthy (as is relative to real word) and the ships actually burn fuel so you have to plan for trips if you wish to move world to world.

It's not well known because it has a very steep learning curve and the fact you need at least 10 dollars to start out decently is a must. This is no different then a lot of games monthly fee. But you won't always have to put this in, it just helps get ammo, fill repair bills, and find new prey to make more money from. My friend was a miner. To put this in to prospective, he was mining there for years. He had dropped at least 100 real life American Dollars into mining probes and depth charges the morning he logged in (that game's system for mining is the best I've ever had the pleasure of playing) and he went out one day. Mind you he was ground up a bit, but he hit a 4000 PED Deposit (Their in game currency) and cashed out 400 dollars. And another one of my friends who was playing since around four years ago cashed out a 1,000 Dollar Killshot on an enemy with the money value of the loot the body hot, hall of faming it. But he of course invested like 5oo dollars to get the weapons and gear and level in the skills he needed to properly take the enemy down.
(Dude got a Hall of Fame 1901 Ped Kill (190 bucks))
It's very relaxing too. Oftentimes I'd just fuel my ship and fly around looking for areas I could hunt in with my proficiency giving me a good change to skill and find decent loots (called globals as they echo across the server) make you feel good inside. The game works just like real life - they have vehicles, real estate, ships, some people even own planets and moons themselves! In the game you can even control a zone if you donate enough, and you pull profits off all action in that zone. And you can set taxation levels. So it's very real-politik. There are malls and casinos. Interplanetary travel. A comet/asteroid you can mine on.
The reason I bring this up is most games are level up or raid oriented. This game levels but rather skills you want to level up to assist your character template. If you're a hunter, then hunt. If you want to be in real estate, wait in towns and outposts and buy low and flip high (there are land deeds). It plays so much like the Sims, but the Sims turned Badass and Stormtrooper-esque. If you want to craft or tradeskill there's so many different things you can even be a hairdresser! Professional haircuts are paid in PEDs. The game gives so much freedom it's very, very refreshing.
So, if you haven't tried it. I definitely suggest it. It may be kind of dated in graphics, but the beauty of the ship flight (can't tell you how much I drove my spaceship around, they cost roughly ten real life dollars, and the better ones range MUCH higher. There's even an interplanetary warping flight that runs on a timer like a bus. It costed that guy a metric ass ton of money to make that ship capable of interplanetary flight. It just really shows how much it's a "Universe" rather than the Project it began as in the early 2000's.
I hope someone else here has played this so we can converse!

It sounds somewhat interesting, but I'll probably have to take a pass on this one.

It looks like a unique concept for a game, but I think I'll have to pass this game up for a little while. It seems like the kind of game where people can kill you and take all of your money. If there was some kind of way that you could play solely against the environment, then I'd definitely have to give this game a shot.

"It seems like the Kind of Game people can kill you and steal your money."

I do not know where you get your information (or didn't) but no, not in the least. There is no full-body looting, anywhere on player characters. Your armor and stuff decays when you die and you have to be repaired, like most games. This is no different than any other game - aside from the currency you spend is real, whether in game or drawing it backwards.

So each mistake is measured. It forces you be good and to learn. Most everybody is helpful. The worst thing you die in ONE of FEW PVP zones - like crossing into outer-space to go to another planet, and this only happens if you take the same route as pirates, and if your ship is unarmed. If you're in a transport and pay for passage it'll lightwarp you to the planet. If you die, your ship becomes disabled and needs repaired and you respawn in the nearest space station. Again, the game is really all about Player Vs Enviroment. It's more SIMS like then a game, I'd say. You can own real estate, planets, ships, interact with most anything. I know people who crafted/tradeskilled their way to making 20,000 USD a month in the game as the games first fashion clothier. It's no joke. You never even need to leave the first planet if you don't want to. Most don't. I just drove to another one (and had it on autopilot for forty minutes at max speed, watching shows) before I even got there. The universe is huge, the zones sweepingly large, and what you can do with it and how free form it is, makes up for the dated graphics and motions. And it has a very nice Sci-Fi feel to it.

Also, sorry to see you said pass. It's still to this day one of the most underrated games because of the real life currency system. I also know people who earned from being free their entire life, not donating. Donating just makes it easier. And you can donate 5-10 per week or per month, and it would still let you enjoy it. If not, it's entirely free so you've wasted nothing. And since it is so old there are plenty of guides out there for it.

So before knocking it and going with the general audience, try it first.

If it's not for you after that, I can understand. Most people it isn't for, but for those aiming for a "universe" and not a game you have to level to hit max cap, this is the one. There is no true 'level' except for skills you wish to hone over time like Ultima Online - and they take TIME to level up. . Of course, the more you put in the better your character can be and earn on par to the donations. It's not pay to win, it's pay to advance. Everyone has the same chances. I was lucky and hit a couple "global kills" with the free ammo and gun you get from questing/friendly people around the newbie area. They want more people to play their game so their community is outstanding - more players equals more commerce. And the commerce is completely PLAYER DRIVEN. There are very, very few games that can boast that.

As a side note, I paid the game 100 bucks and I got back 75 of it, and my character was moderately skilled. If I upgrade the donation and buy better armor and weapons per decay and hunt mobs that don't damage by reading guides I could have probably made 120 off 100 about my skill level. It's a very unique game. Mining is a blast, literally ANYWHERE can be mined. Underwater, on mountains, hillsides, near a town in spots. And the vein ore nodes shift constantly and refresh so there's chances for HALL of FAME shots from anywhere. Even for newbie miners. I blew 60 bucks on a comet ride to do mining on a casino asteroid and I came back with 120, so I fell in love with it. Drop a bunch of bombs, read seismic charges and mine up the ore.

Hi there. I like to see a fellow entropia player here. I've played the game since 2007 and still consider myself pretty much a newbie. I only put like 20 dollars back then and my account now is worth 100 times that, if I wanted to withdraw it, but I don't. The game for me is a challenge to see if I can make it to the top without spending real life money.

I love the playerbase, specially in planet Arkadia where I live now. Very mature, with lots of sense of humor and very helpful. A few days ago I attended to a real life wedding here in Arkadia. Two players that met in game some time ago got married in real life and in the game. It was an awesome event. Here is the video a player recorded from that event:

But, yes this game is too complex, so explain it in just one post is not possible. So, if anyone has any specific questions or doubts please feel free to ask here and I will be glad to answer them.

I really like the sound of this game. I don't know how comfortable I am playing with real money, though. It isn't gonna hurt anything to find out, though

As mentioned earlier, you don't even have to put any money in to begin with. Just create your account and download the game for free. Start playing and get to know the people and the mechanics. When and if you ever feel the need or desire you can easily deposit any amount of money you like into the game.

An important word of advice here: Make absolutely sure you use your real information when you create the account. Mindark is extremely strict when it comes to withdrawing any money from the game, and some of the information, like your real name, cannot be changed later. So if you expect to withdraw any money in the future, as we all do :), do not use fake details. They are a very serious company and your information will be safe. Also, they don't spam your inbox or anything.

And remember, feel free to ask here about any doubts you have.

Also, there are plenty of sites online to earn money for this game.

Like EntropiaPartners! I let radios idle all day and I get 1 cent every 10 minutes+ 10 Radio points per 10 minutes (they rollover once a month) for real PED *last cycle it was 4 cents a point), so you really can play for free.

If you are dedicated and the beginning the game doesn't turn you off (with a learning curve equal to eve) I've been playing on off since 2005 and I have to say it's one of the only games I go back to and don't uninstall. Like it's not a game. Like they said, it's a UNIVERSE. It's just so open, so vast, so sand-boxy.

Yeah, I did play this title a few years back. Very complicated systems and a large world. It really does feel like a universe. I was looking for a more "game-y" title though.

That's the problem with most new arrivals. They expect a "Game" and find a "Universe" like a SIMS world or a SECOND LIFE experience, but with plenty of gaming aspects (Hunting, Mining, Crafting, Space Flight) and they just don't have the time to invest nor the CAPITAL (Money) to start their character up since it has a "RCE" or Real-Cash Economy. It turns away most kids right there. And the free activities in the game ARE pretty demeaning (but they are meant to be) because they are running a service that can eventually pay you, so they can't just give everyone who joins free money. I suggest if you like this type of game/this game itself you donate 10-15 month like any other ONLINE MMO with a MONTHLY FEE.

This 100-150 PED in game (10:1 ratio USD) will get you a set of cheap armor, a gun/melee weapon/ammo, and a vehicle/gas to pilot it. After that I dropped my donations down to 5-10 a month and I'm more than happy with it. I'm not against donating or depositing for a game that deserves it (and this one does - SO MUCH to do. You just can't run out of things do it, if you look around and spend your PED wisely).

People see RCE and freak out, not wanting to deposit real life money into a game. But I don't know why they get like this when I know plenty of people who buy DLC for video games on Xbox Live or pay monthly fees on the computer. It's literally NO different, but this money can eventually PAY you back. My friend has invested over 20k USD in real life That's 200k PEDS. He bought land contracts he can collect taxes and income off of, he bought himself a sweet set of gear and weapons, the best vehicles, and he hunts monthly bringing home 2.5k USD Out of game. That's pretty impressive if you ask me. Granted I do not have that MUCH but if I did, whooooo.

Yeah, I don't hold the RCE against the game. Even when I was playing, I wasn't turned off because of that. I mean as you said, Second Life does the same thing to quite a bit of success. For me well, this title did not appeal to my interests. I don't hold that against the title. I feel it's an awesome title with deep systems, though targeted to a certain group of players. Same with Second Life and similar titles.
