ESO (should) be able to run in 2007-era PCs

Although ESO is still not releasing the complete specifications for the game, the fact that they are using a modified version of an old Elder Scrolls game engine (probably started in Oblivion) might mean that it should be able to run on older PCs.

Granted, playing a game in minimum requirements does not really guarantee that you'll get the best gaming experience, but for some people just being able to run around without worrying about FPS is enough. I remember tweaking my Oblivion settings way back just to play it, and although it looked ugly I'm happy enough that I could stealth and complete quests. Lowering the minimum requirements opens the game to a whole audience of other people, expanding the market and making it more lucrative for Bethesda. A win-win situation, IMO.

How about you guys, would you jump into ESO if they lowered the PC requirements?

No I want the requirements to be high I have a good PC why would I want them to be lowered by people that don't want to upgrade their systems chances are if your computer is outdated you shouldn't be playing the game in the place that money should go towards upgrading your system.

I don't want it to be compatible on 2007 computers. They are way too slow to run a game like this, and if they can buy the game, then they can probably upgrade their computer.

Hopefully it will have better graphics than what could be ran on a 2007's computer but I think they should allow the settings to be lowered enough to include some lower spec systems without ruining the aesthetics. I don't have anything to worry about as I have a decent gpu (HD 6850).

Damn are you really asking for it to run on 7-8+ years old computers? An average PC life cycle is about 5 years...

I however don't mind a Low or Very Low settings in ESO, so it can run on some ancient PCs, as long as it is still a modern game!

As long as the game gets more players I'm ok with that.
I'd rather have bad graphics and good gameplay than bad gameplay (no players) and good graphics.

Don't forget that, though the game might not be that graphically intensive, seeing as it's a MMO with a thousand things happening at the same time: It's going to need a decent pc.

I'm all for proper optimization but trying to run it with a 6 year old pc might be pushing it a bit too far.

I agree, I am all for optimization as well but if you are a PC gamer chances are you know when it is time to upgrade your system. If you really want to play ESO then you will know before release that you need to upgrade and do it. I would be fine with 2010 being a good technology cut off date, even if that means I myself would need to upgrade to play. I understand that and if I want to play PC games that is what I will do.

I disagree, I have a pretty good gaming PC too, but the biggest danger to MMO's today is a dwindling subscriber base. I played WoW for years with an awful single core, Radeon 9200 equipped crap box. It ran at a good 10 - 15 fps, and I loved it. The game was still pretty thanks to some great art design by blizzard.

Art design definitely comes before graphical sparklies when it comes to MMO design imo.

I won't be able to run ESO since I have a really outdated version of Vista with terrible Specs, but I'd have to agree with letting it have the ability to run on older OS, since not everyone is buying a brand new computer or even parts in general every time something gets outdated. Like come on, are we rich? no... and if you are, good for you.

There is a difference between being able to afford a $60 game and a monthly subscription and being able to afford a $100-200 PC upgrade possibly more. 2007 PCs are more than capable of getting graphics better tha a 360 at least.

I think it's great. I think that if your 2007 computer can't handle it then lowering the graphics to get a better FPS is great for them , as long as they understand that it is a compromise between graphics and how smooth the game runs. As for super high end gaming computers (which most people don't have) then obviously they should be able to play on high graphics without worrying about FPS. Personally I sit somewhere in the middle, as I think, most people do.

If you have a 2007 PC I would consider upgrading when you can because most next gen PC games are going to require some good hardware and if you can't afford it then you might want to consider buying a console.

I think it depends on how they view WOW. One of the most suggested reasons for WOWs success is that it played very well on a non-gaming computer. You also have to look at games like AOC that tried to really push the specs to play the game. You either greatly limit your potential market, or else you have a lot of complaints by people with the minimum specs having a ton of issues.

I have not played WoW in along time, but last time I tried it the graphics looked dated I have seen F2P games with better graphics and If I was paying 60 for the game plus a monthly fee I want something that looks good.

I think WoW's greatest strength in terms of market penetration was that their game could run (at lowest settings) on a toaster. I imagine there are phones out now that could have run the original release of world of warcraft.
