Walked into a cavern well-equipped can be far less daunting with just a pickaxe or sword. This will be a guide to keep you alive and looting in caverns!
Equipment: It is important while mining in a cavern to have plenty of pickaxes handy and a decent sword, having a bucket of water handy can make the difference between life and death. Keep a map or a compass with you to avoid getting lost, having armour and a bow with ammunition can help keep those monsters from stealing your loot easily.
Strategy: keep you distance from the wall while mining, and never dig straight down! If you stick too close to the walls while mining lava can break out and incinerate yourself and your items! Never second guess when fighting a monster, if you are greatly outnumbered, run away! Never engage with an Enderman unless you have great gear.
I hope this guide can help someone further their knowledge and strategies while playing Minecraft! Don't forget to have fun!

I liked your guide. I think it just takes time for the new individual to Minecraft to learn how to mine as most people I know kind of develop their own little mining style. Like I mentioned before, I like this guide as some outlines for the new miner. :)

Here are some tips of my own.
    • Never mine all the way down to bedrock in a 1x1 tunnel. There are high chances you will die in lava.
    • Instead, you can still mine downwards in a 3x3 tunnel. Always make sure that you stand on the block you mine last, and before you mine that last block, get off of it and mine it. This way, you know for sure that it's safe under you.
    • Keep chests and torches with you at all times. Always keep your exploration area underground well lit to prevent sudden surprises by harmful mobs. The chests ask as checkpoints where you store your items in case you end up dying. Better to lose a few than to lose it all.

A compass is important to get back to your house (it will point you to the last place you slept at). If you ever get lost in a cave just dig straight up (I know it's not the best practice, but you don't have an alternative) until you get to the surface.
