In New Vegas there are several major factions such as Caesar's Legon, NCR, or Yes man and there's several minor ones such as Boomers, Followers of the Apocalypse, and Brotherhood of Steel. Which factions are your favourite, least favourite and which ones have you joined?
I've done it all. I prefer murdering as many of the other factions as possible and doing my own thing, though. :3
Here's my impression of each of the (major) factions: NCR: Generally the "good guys" of Fallout NV. The NCR feels hypocritical at times and I strongly dislike siding with them. Caesar's Legion: Generally the "bad guys" of Fallout NV. Even though they're actually pretty bad, I enjoy playthroughs where I side with them. Yes man: Self-serving faction, enough said. House: Probably the best option for the Mojave Desert overall.
I like the Followers, even though they are not a major faction in the game. They stick to their principles, do their thing and are generally the nice guys. The NCR look like they mean well, but there is something off about them. Like they are a step away from becoming a military dictatorship. Having said that, I tend to join them most of the time on the account of hating the Legion too much
In my only playthrough I sided with myself! Which meant I had a bad reputation with both NCR, House and Caesar's Legion, so that was fun. I really like all of the factions though. They all have shades of gray on them, unlike Fallout 3's which were white knights vs evil assholes. I found FO3 to be way too black and white when it came to the factions, while New Vegas is much better about making all the factions have at least a little bit of a grey area. Plus, FO3 also screwed over the BoS by making them white knights (extremely contrary to their original purpose) and I liked that New Vegas fixed that.
I like the Followers of the Apocalypse, they are decent and peaceful for the most part. I usually play the "good guy" so I never sided with Caesar's Legion. I semi-side with NCR while doing my own thing. Just to have some quests to do and to have a few conversations. Also, Boone. As for Yes Man, I did some of his quests but I think I chose my own path in the end. He's an interesting character though so it was fun collaborating with him.
I never sided with any of them, so. Also I could never take the Caesar's Legion seriously because of how they pronounced "Caesar". It kept making me laugh.
Well, to be fair to FO3, the BOS in that game was already described as being a split group and they had members that rebelled and left them, calling themselves Outcasts, which you can interact with by trading weapons and armor for items. As for me, I dabbled with every faction except for the Legion since my Courier was female and it would be kinda ridiculous to have her join a group like them. I just settled for wholesale slaughter of them.
The boomers was my favorite. Their backstory was really interesting, and the way the kid presented it you was pretty amusing for me. The Legion was probably my least favorite, to a point that as soon as I first met Caesar I blew his head off right away. What followed was around a hour long sequence of me trying to escape the high level soldiers, abusing the save system and trying not to get caught, but eventually I did escape and it was so worth it!
