Fallout 1, 2, and tactics are free on gog for the next 48 hours! try the rpgs that started the series, all of them are far superior to fallout 3 and new vegas IMO.

They're all definitely worth checking out, although I think that a lot of the game mechanics haven't aged very well. Neat to see the origins of the franchise, although I can't see most people who started with FO3 or later finishing a playthrough of these games. (maybe FO1, with it being a bit on the shorter and easier side)

I personally really enjoyed the strategy and planning of Tactics, too bad I lost my old save on a HDD crash. Might go back and try and play it again some time.

I've got some games to play in my inventory and a lot of games coming up in 2014, so I'm planning to save my time for them and not on some old games, no matter how good they may be..
    *rants about graphics and optimization*

New Vegas was my favourite, Fallout 2 probably second favourite. Yeah, they were great games for their time - but I'd say that the gameplay mechanics of the first Fallout games haven't aged very well. The story and characters, on the other hand, will always be brilliant. :)

  11. I wanted to record me playing them, but now everyone and their mother are doing that, gee thanks a lot gog :(

Lots of people did Metro walkthrough videos, and you still managed to make really good ones. I personally would enjoy seeing someone play "correctly" through the first two games, most of the people picking them up probably (like me) have no idea what they're doing.

  13. But the reason I made metro ones is because the videos available at the time were terrible and there were very few of them. That's not the case with Fallout I'm afraid.

I just feel discouraged right now, I'll see what I can do.

Spoiler alert: It's easy, put all SPECIAL skills into charisma and perception. Head to Necropolis, sweet talk your way past the retarded mutant, get the water chip. Go to Vault 13, return it then go west to the Super Mutant Creation area (Mariposa/Navarro can't remember what it's called) Then blast your way through and return to Vault 13 to get shunned by that old motherfucker, then consequently shoot him in the guts. Wa-la!

I did manage to beat FO1 by the skin of my teeth (and knowing where the .223 pistol was from previously reading the wiki). Combat is pretty punishing, I had to save constantly for fear of getting crit'd.

.223 was beast, and awesome because the rifle ammunition it used was abundant. I preferred the 14 mm, just because of the way it sounded. Ammunition for it was way rarer though. God what a couple of great games, I just re-played Fallout 2 a few weeks ago. Punching rats in the groin is my jam.
