Over the years, we've had to deal with a lot of rivals in the Pokemon series. My personal favorite is the classic douchebag, Gary. He's cocky, he's original, he's a loveable goofball. What is your favorite rival character?
Yeah, Gary is a pretty cool rival. I hated him though when I was younger. I have to agree that he was probably my favorite. Now my least favorite rival was Calem since he was always super nice to me and it made it so hard to dislike him. I even felt bad that I won every battle with him. I wanted to take it easy, but I knew I couldn't. It made me feel monstrous.
I'd go with Silver from Gold/Silver/Crystal. I remember when I first played the original Pokemon Gold game as a child, I didn't know you were supposed to change the "???", and the poor guy was stuck being referred to as "???" throughout the whole thing, lol. I thought he was a pretty interesting character, with his obsession from the start with gaining power. I like dark things, I guess, and I found him the most dark of all the rivals. The others are all pretty decent people even though they were 'rivals', while he was obsessed with power and really hateful. Even when he becomes more of a "good guy", he's still really harsh in his speech and mannerisms.
Gold/Silver depending on which game you bought was my all time favorite rival. He was the kind of guy you really just wanted to beat. Well, the guy I really wanted to beat. Of course, that's probably because of how nasty and mean they made him. I would count Wally as my second favorite rival but unfortunately he's not technically the player's rival.
Well, the first time I played Pokemon was Red and I really hated Gary. He's annoying, think he's smart and most of all he was Prof. Oak's kid.
Oh my god, Gary! I knew I wasn't the only one who thought he was a dick. I like playing him in Ruby. I don't know if I have a favorite rival but I always look forward to fighting the gym trainers.
It will always be Gary. When I was younger, it was a love hate relationship. To this day, I haven't found a rival in any game I liked as much as Gary.
My favourite one is Gary of the first season. I am kind of nostalgic of those moments where Ash faced Gary for the first time and in the battle arena.. those were simply epic moments.
I really liked Bianca and Cheren. Maybe because we got to see them again and where they had gone in Black/ White 2? It was just nice to see some major development for them.
Gary has always been a great rival. At least he was very condescending, and always looked down on you. He wasn't like some other rivals, who wanted to get to the top together with you and fight it out there. No, instead he wanted to crush you whenever possible, trying to make you give up on your dream. Now that's a rival!
I love Brendan/Ruby as a rival. It's funny to see him slowly transform from a sexist jerk to a cool friend. I also really like Barry/Pearl from D/P/Pt. He's a really likable dude.
Gary Gary Gary Gary Gary. He is the quintessential rival. None of the others have managed to instil such a sense of loathing in me as Gary, because even when you beat him - up until the final battle, anyway - he maintains his priggish attitude and acts as though he whupped your butt. Then he runs off, and you're forced to play catch-up. The drive to beat his face in is, to me, what a rival should be, and most of the other series rivals don't live up to that same standard. Aside from the dude in the second game, they're all too friendly. I don't want a friend, I want an antagonist!
Silver or ??? As I idiotically named him as kid as I read the questions marks a bit to literally instead of seeing them as a sign to create or add in my own name. I like him as he starts off as a hard-ass but he changes his attitude when you see him in Mt Moon. I think he even gets a Crobat at the end. A pokemon only obtained via trading or happiness
