As well as the core, numbered titles, there have been many different spin-offs in Final Fantasy. Which one (or which branch) is your favourite? I personally really enjoyed the two Crystal Chronicles games for the DS. The combat was really fun, and I enjoyed the stories far more than I expected I would. I'm just hoping for a 3DS follow-up! Final Fantasy Tactics is also worth a mention, but I enjoyed Crystal Chronicles far more.
I definitely enjoyed the Final Fantasy Tactics series, although I didn't play the one on the PSX as much as the other entries. The Crystal Chronicle series wasn't quite a favorite for me, the DS games were somewhat more enjoyable than the original on the Gamecube in terms of multiplayer in my opinion. A follow-up on the 3DS would be worth looking into if it ever does happen. As for Kingdom Hearts, the plot is great and is quite in-depth, but the only game I could complete was Chain of Memories for the GBA; despite people not liking this entry, I did enjoy the card based combat system over the original.
It's a tie between Crisis Core and Dissidia for me. Those were some of the best portable games I've ever played..but I'd have to go with Dissidia. It's final fantasy CGI combat in a playable form and it's amazing. I'm hoping with FF15 that we see more of that.
Ditto with jbeavis100. Dissidia and Crisis Core are amazing. Crisis Core is kind of annoying at first, though, with the semi-random leveling and stuff but it becomes truly amazing once you are allowed to fuse materia. Plus, it's fun to see how much of a useless rookie Cloud was at first, haha. Dissidia is the king of Final Fantasy spin-offs, though. The story sucks but the gameplay is fantastic specially if you find some other PSP-owner to play it with. I really hope that they make another one for Vita/PS3/PS4 (hell, it should be for all 3 as a cross-play title) because of how much of an improvement Duodecim is over vanilla.
I would love to see a Dissidia on 3DS more then vita or ps3/ps4 mostly because I find that the 3DS will end up being the better platform for that. The Vita is currently not doing hot and right now I really doubt that many games will be made for the vita until sony puts out some first party titles and tries to make sales pop. Until it starts selling though the 3DS is more likely to get a Dissidia sequel then any other portable at the moment.
Dissidia doesn't sound like the kind of game that fits the 3DS at all for me because of the controls among other things. Sales aren't the only things that matter. Think about if, if the publishers/developers use them as a excuse to not support it then it's never gonna sell. They need to support it for it to sell. Remember the 3DS wasn't doing so hot at first either.
My favorite is Final Fantasy Tactics on the PS1. To me it was the only spin off worth the Final Fantasy title. The one I dislike the most is Dirge of Cerberus, it's gives Final Fantasy a bad name.
Man I played through Dirge of Cerberus and enjoyed it yeaaars ago when it came out. Was still young and dumb then. But posts like these make me want to go back to it. I mean, was it really THAT bad?
I really wonder! Most people seem to HATE that game but I remember it being fun, as I said. Now you're saying you think it's great too. Man, I really gotta replay that one!
Well, It's a bit short but I loved it and it really expanded on Vincent's personal history so much but created just as many questions as it answered. Just because the game wasn't a turn based RPG some people don't consider it a true final fantasy.
For me, Final Fantasy Tactics was also the best spin-off. It was a really challenging game and one of the best strategy RPGs I have ever played. I really loved all the planning needed to move on the game.
