If you didn't know the popular server plug in CraftBukkit was hit with a copyright claim and has to shut down. I never really play the multiplayer of minecraft so it won't have a huge impact on me personally, but I know many of you guys do and I was curious as to what your feelings are about the whole situation?

I think that large scale Minecraft servers are dying. This could sadly mean the end for most people playing Minecraft, many will probably leave with their servers. Between this and the EULA enforcement, It is a very grim day for anything but small private servers and single player. In my opinion, I think this is the beginning of the end of Minecraft's large scale popularity.

Whoever claimed copyright is full on selfish idiot in my opinion. There are thousands of Minecraft servers out there, and if Mojang pulled this claim themselves there's no way I can forgive them. Minecraft lost about 90 percent of their community, and I used Craftbukkit to play with friends always. I never used the Vanilla server because it didn't support mods that much, and plugins could be added to Craftbukkit, which were an amazing part of servers. Little do they know, whoever did this, that they increased Minecraft piracy, and made the problem worse since the servers can still be downloaded from Torrents and other file hosting sites.

What sort of drugs are you guys on? Minecraft losing 90% of the community? Large scale servers are dying? What?! LOL

What about a link for more info?!

    Are you talking about this?

    http://hypixel.net/threads/whats-going-on-with-bukkit-explained.174441/
    http://dl.bukkit.org/dmca/notification.txt

Probably won't go through because it was owned by Mojang and a joint effort - so the guy claiming copyright doesn't own the code but he can try. Bukkit isn't going to be closed down either, the current devs are leaving it.

I'm not going to go into the politics of this, because that starts a lot of arguments, but I can say that it sucks that it's been taken down.

I probably mention this too much on here, but I run a server, and it would suck to see it closed down. Most of the people that join tell me that it's a nice server, and I know that the server could never be what it is without having the bukkit API, whether that's craftbukkit or spigot.

My servers all use spigot, but that's only because in my experience it works a lot better with bungee, but it's still just a modification of craftbukkit, and runs on the bukkit API, so if bukkit gets taken down then so does spigot.

But if they both get taken down, something else with an completely new API would probably come back up. If it's a new API then all plugins will need to be rewritten for it, and that might take a while, but if they keep away from mojang then all is good (probably. No one knows what's happening with the EULA anymore)

Didn't some of the developers of that team already join mojang to help implementing the modding api? At least that's what I still remember from a few years ago.

Well, we're still waiting on the mod API since the last time we hit 1.8 :p

This will massively impact the servers because bukkit creates all the amazing servers we all know and love. This would really kill minecraft to a small speck in my opinion.

It was just a modification of the server files, that allowed servers to run plugins. Things like extra commands and minigames, that don't need the user to download anything. For big servers, or anything other than a private server, it was pretty much a requirement, because the tools built into minecraft really aren't enough to moderate a big server, and pure vanilla servers didn't support things like multiple worlds, or linking servers together (which would mean no hub world).

    In short, it sucks.

For everyone who plays Minecraft because of the awesome Bukkit plugins... this means going back to the Vanilla ages. But most likely, there will be a few individual plugins that are capable of running without Bukkit.

It would really ruin Minecraft. But I guess it is pendling. Should I worry?

If this is really happening then, it actually might be the start of the downfall of Minecraft. Mainly because most of the players are there because of the multiplayer as am I, so a big percentage of the player base will leave due to this.
