According to Yoshi-P they are working towards releasing FFXIV on steam. I myself am waiting for this to happen before I give the game a try.

To be honest I don't see how this will change anything. There was a lot of hype about the game, but once it came out it took like 1-2 months at most for people to get bored . I was expecting a lot more from the game. If it was free to play I'd probably play it, but with a subscription at the moment IMHO it's not worth it. Better save your money and wait for Wildstar if you are looking for a new MMORPG :p

That's cool, but I wouldn't buy it unless their was some kind of free trial when it come to P2P MMO's I am on the fence when it comes to buying.

Interesting. I have a copy of the game, but I hope that they'll let you download it for free from Steam if you already have a key or something. It is a bit of a disappointment for me. They made it so you can play with a controller and the result is that the global cooldowns are too long and the combat feels too slow.

Well, I think it'll change quite a bit. Whenever ANY game is released on steam there is always a surge in people playing. That is a fact and you can check that if you like but the point remains. It might push SE into making more content faster and that might be a good thing.

If the game goes f2p yeah there will be a surge of people, but otherwise I don't think that it will change. I mean what is the difference having it released for steam, origin or any other similar platform?? No difference whatsoever. The game is still the same rather boring game which you have to pay to play.
Earlier today I started playing TERA since I have some free time on my hands during the holidays and I have to say the game is 10 times better then FF and I can play it as a free users.
Of course that is only my own opinion :)

I think many people, myself included like Steam integration. It's nice seeing how many hours you logged on your profile and being able to use steam chat with the client. Right now, it stops at the login screen so I have to alt-tab.

Btw there is a really nice site called Raptr. They have an application that follows the hours you play + there are rewards some times you can claim like for example on RIFT there is a pet and other rewards. At the moment there is also a gunners reward where you get 30% discount.

I have Raptr but all my friends are on Steam. Not really a fan of Raptr either. It was nice to get some freebies but I think Steam still does it better.

I guess every person has different test. I myself can't stand steam. Don't have it installed on my PC and never will. Had it for like a day because of dota2, but since the game felt inferion to League of Legends(at least back in the beta when I was trying it out) I deleted it literally 1 hour after I installed it and haven't installed it since then.
On the other side I have friends like you who are simply in love with steam and don't use anything else :)

Well, I've seen dead games have rereleases on steam and then the game gets a new refresh on it. Just because it's not going F2p doesn't mean it's not going to get alot of attention. Steam can revive games alot of the time, hopefully when it is released it will force them to make some more content and quickly.

Well, I mostly have it for the sales. I had like 2 or 3 games on Steam and no friends for like 2 years until they started doing those crazy ass sales. Since they shut down MSN and stuff, Steam is also my go-to chat client since most of my good friends are PC gamers as well.

Yeah I can see the logic. They do have crazy sales quite often, though I can usually find all games at the same and some times lower prices on different sites :D
Btw why not use skype? I use skype with all my friends. I can't imagine my life without skype lol :p

I use Skype, but if I want to talk to my friends when I'm in the middle of gaming, I have to Alt-Tab to send a message. I also usually don't wear a headset so if I make a voice call without push to talk, it's pretty annoying to hear the sounds coming from my computer.

I've never been able to understand any dislike of steam. What is it about steam that you don't like? Is it because it's a form of DRM?

    Will keep it short.
    1. Useless applicaiton.
    2. Mostly bad games or at least not to my taste.
    3. I can find 99% of the game a lot cheaper on other sites, so no point in buying games from there even if the games are for steam only.

What do you mean by DRM? Digital Rights Management? If that's what you mean I don't see how this have any effect on anything lol.
The majority of the steam games are solo or can be played on lan, so if people want to play them using pirate copies there is nothing that can be done. Even dota 2 is among those. There are a lot of servers who have tens of thousands of users on their servers.
Also I already have one useless similar application running on my PC (Raptr), so I don't really want more of them. Be it Steam, Origin or any other rubbish application like that.

1: Don't think it's useless at all if you have friends who play games on it and want a game that is steam exlusive and there are going to be some.

2: That doesn't even make sense, there are games of every single genre going all the way back to the beginning of PC gaming in the 80s.

3: It's EXTREMELY rare that any sale beats steams..

I just can't understand why you don't like steam?

It's great because you buy a game once and you never have to worry about losing a disc or a CD Key or anything..

    1. My friends like good games. Mostly games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends. I have only 1 friend that actually plays on steam and he barely plays.

    2. Name 2 good games that you can't play without steam? When I say good games I mean games worth your while, not some 20 hours games, but games that you play for months to progress. I don't think there are any.

    3. Absolutely wrong. Here is a simple quick check I did just now on a game that I've been thinking of buying.
    https://www.g2a.com/the-secret-world-1.html
    and
    http://store.steampowered.com/app/215280/
In my country's currency the game from g2a comes to a price of around 13 Euro while it's 15 Euro on steam.
Also bear in mind that this is actually a holiday special otherwise they sell the game for double the price, while g2a have constantly on that price even though it's supposed to be some type of promo. I've been keeping an eye on secret world on g2a and that's the price they've kept for more than a month. There are many more games that I can find cheaper on other sites.
