So, I never actually got into FFT, but there's something I've been wondering...

Which one is better, the PSP remake or the PSX version?

I am a fan of the original Final Fantasy Tactics but I liked more the PSP version more, as it was updated and enriched. The dialogue was retranslated, there are are more characters and some nice cutscenes. If you can, get the PSP version.

The PSP version of course, like what was said, the PSP version is better looking and have extra new characters in it. It does however suffer from the occasional slowdown on the PSP. If you don't mind slowdowns than PSP is worth the look.

Both are great games, but I enjoyed the one on the PSX just because I enjoy playing on a larger screen it's easier on the eyes other then that it's hard to say which one is actually better in my opinion.

Of the two, the PSP version is better simply because it was made so much later. It meant graphical improvements and extra added gameplay elements.

I myself only played the Playstation 1 version though

PSP because of the added and changed stuff. The changes were all for the better.

So I guess the verdict is that the PSP version is the superior version, then. Cool, might grab it on PSN sometime.

Arguably, the PSP incarnation is better. And if you own a legal copy of the game, you could always back it up and use fan-made patches to remove the slowdown in battles, or even restore the original resolution of the game from 16:9 to 4:3.

That's interesting. Is the slowdown removal a side effect of the CFW's overclocking or an actual patch for the game itself?

The increase in performance isn't a matter of overclocking, but rather a patch in the game. I think there is a community dedicated to hacking Final Fantasy Tactics and creating gameplay mods, and such. Might be something to investigate.

Interesting, so an actual patch to fix the slowdown... fans doing what the companies don't! Gonna look into it.

Kinda depressing that we have to make games function better manually, but I'm just impressed that we have the power to do so now.

I find it amazing because I didn't think it would be possible to fix that issue with the PSP game. It's a nice surprise. The slowdown was what had really prevented me from getting into the game so I might enjoy it with that fix.

Really? There are new characters in the PSP version? How does the new characters affect the story then? Are there any difference in the story from the original PS1 version? Oh and I only played this game on PS1 so I can't comment on whether playing on emulator or PSP is better. XD

I prefer the PSP version, hands down. The PSP offers the same gaming experience graphically, all while being portable. I played Final Fantasy: War of the Lions on my PSP. Was pretty neat being able to pause a battle mid way, simply by putting my device to sleep. With the PSX, I was never able to do that.
